I am thinking of buying a new computer--before I go looking, can someone suggest or recommend what is the best video card to have or any other useful info

Thanks

Um, it's critical to find out if your power supply can support a new video card. If you have an OEM (Dell, HP, etc.) there's a good chance you're going to have to change out the power supply as well.

That said, Tigerdirect has some good cards on rebate for about $35-$50. A GT430 is a good card if you are confined by a weak power supply. A 1Gb 9800GT is about $35 and is better card, but draws more power. If you had a good 500-600W PSU, they have a GTS250 on sale for, I think, $45.

I have a HP Desktop that has 3 Gb Ram, and an upgraded 1 TB Hard Drive, I replaced my video card with a $125 a Galaxy Nvidia 450 video card, (as my power supply was only a weak 350 watt max).

Suprisingly it plays TRS2006 fantasticly.

What I should have done was have Geek Squad put in a heavier wattage $85 power supply for $50 labor.

A new desktop will run you in excess of $850 ... you can super power your old PC for well below $500
