New Basemap Technique: Request for Comments (*Large Images*)

Hi Mike top work does it work in trainz 12 if so how can i get a copy
thanks:)

As noted in my original post, "The plug-in produces all files required for use with TS2010 and TS12".

The software is only in the beta test stage at this point and so is not available for general download. When it's available it will be announced on the Freeware Forum.

Hi Mike,
This sounds just like what I could do with. It sounds as though it picks up where transdem stops which would be a great advantage to folk like me. Id be more than happy to read through the manual and beta test as well if you are still looking for folk :)

Hi Mike. Having started to read the manual (which is very informative btw), the first question that pops into my head is to do with the grid size. The document says it is set at 10m grid. Can this be changed to use the 5m grid?

I made a deliberate choice to go with the 10m grid to keep the number of polygons in the basemaps reasonable. At the 10m grid size you get 10,368 polygons (of geometry) per basemap, which isn't great but doesn't seem to really kill Surveyor. At the 5m grid you would get 41,472 (4x) which would be a huge load on the system, especially with a lot of basemaps loaded and visible all at once.

All the baseboards in my route were generated at 5m resolution from TransDEM, so I can speak from direct experience when I say that the 10m grid of the basemaps has not, at least so far (and at least for me), proven to be a big issue as far as having the basemaps fit the terrain reasonably well.

" I will be releasing RubyTMIX 1.2 by itself in due course, as it contains some useful new features and fixes."

What new features you will insert in 1.2?

Hello Mike,

I installed the free version of Google sketchup 8 and then installed RubyTMIX without any problems.

Filled in the configuration : that is Trainz user id, author Name, left the other items blank. Kuids en model defaults were automatically filled-in.
When clicking on the save settings and close dialog, the screen did not shutdown.
Using the reset all values button doesn't work.
No errors are appearing on the screen.

Do you have any idea, why this issue occurs?

Operating system used :Windows Xp Sp 3

Did the same process on my HD with windows 7 : here everything went fine.

Best regards

In SketchUp, go to Window and select Ruby Console. Then try saving your settings again in RubyTMIX and let me know what appears in the Ruby Console window. You can post the results here or you can e-mail them to me at 'mike at dhobh dot net'.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for your reply.

When opening the Ruby console, a Ruby console window is opened, however the google Sketchup menu's become unavailable. Unable to fill in the RubyTMIX configuration window.

Normally when the Ruby Console window opens, it takes the focus. Just click on the SketchUp window again and it should regain the focus -- the Ruby Console window is not modal.

Hello Mike,

Oeps, I think my nightshift of yesterday is getting to me. Anyway, opened the Ruby console, opened the RubyTmix configuration, filled it in. Nothing changed, the RubyTmix window is remaining on the screen and nothing appeared in the Ruby console window.

Best regards

Hmm. When you installed RubyTMIX, did you also copy the 'RubyTMIX' folder into your SketchUp 'PlugIns' folder? In other words, inside of 'C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\Plugins' there should be a folder named 'RubyTMIX'. This folder contains the Trainz Mesh Importer and the Image Post-Processor, and is also where the master config file is stored. You might even look in that folder and see if there is a file named 'mconfig.rtm', which is the master setup file.

Please also let me know the 'exact' version of SketchUp you are using. You can find this in the dialog that is displayed when you choose 'Help -> About SketchUp'.

Hello Mike,

Yes, I installed the RubyTMIX folder into the sketchup plugins folder. After installations, I saw the 2 files, that is rtmipp.exe and trainzmeshimporter.exe

I didn't find the mconfig.rtm file - so I shutdown the pc, installed my windows 7 HD ( where all functions 100% ) and verified the folders.

On my windows 7, I didn't find a mconfig.rtm file

My version of Google sketchup = 8.0.14346

I can suggest the following - I have some other HD's available with windows xp sp 3 - I will install everything on one of the HD and will see what result I'm getting ( but that will be a job for tomorrow evening )

Best regards.

Hello Mike,

Just to curious, I wanted to know if this problem also occured on a HD which is used for non-testing purposes.

Result : no problem occured on this HD

Mike, I regret any inconvenience caused, but something ( reason unknown ) on my test-HD was blocking the good functioning of Google sketchup and RubyTmix.

It was no inconvenience at all. If you feel I can provide any more input, just ask.

Hi mike

I have been having problems with base maps and your new plug in could be the answer i been look for, due to your screenshots, for some reason I am finding loads of methods such as TransDEM that is not right for me. Some come easier then others but no such luck. I trying to put Norfolk,UK on Trainz to work with 175 mile route of the M&GN,I got the map and station layouts and other peaces.

I find that Google Earth works well but I am finding it hard, even YouTube videos are not helpful at all.

yours

Matthew :)

Thank you for your interest in RubyTMAP. Unfortunately this project is on hold 'indefinitely' - at least until certain technical issues are resolved, and/or until I can establish the necessary working relationship with N3V that will allow me to adopt a different approach which bypasses these issues.

For additional details, please refer to the first post in this thread.
