Need suggestions for PS?

I'm building a PC for my son to play 2012 and I've got most of it but I need help with the power supply.

His machine will be an AMD phenom II x4 840, 4 gigs ram, Asus HD 6770(1gig ddr5)

From the system requirements I've looked at this should be fine but I've been told that I need a 650 watt gaming power supply for this setup. There are huge differences in power supply costs and wattage so I'm wondering what you guys use if your machine is around the same specs.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I would generally suggest a good brand name and then 750W or more (within reason). Future proofing a build is always a good idea.

I would go with an Antec PS as well. Go with the higher end of the wattage to cover for future video card upgrades. The newer video cards tend to take extra power these days, and you want to ensure this is covered.

--- I don't see why BestBuy has to charge $50 to put in a power supply! The process takes about 10 minutes max unless you have to cut tie wraps.

Just ensure you're static-protected. Other than that, the only other risk when replacing a power supply is a scraped finger, which I seem to always get from the stupid power connectors.

Antec or corsair, both reliable in my experience.
One thing to check is how much power the card draws (amps) at 12 volts on full power/use. Make sure the PSU can cover this on it's 12 volt rail.

Thanks for all the suggestions. And I wasn't sure where to post this. Seems like a 'general' question to me, sorry for posting in the wrong area.

I had planned on going with a 650 watt but after the suggestions here I do think I'll go to 750-850 just to be safe. Thanks also for the brand suggestions, I had considered Corsair but I'll look at the other brand too.

I've come to the conclusion that while Speedfan is a nice program, I'm not sure it's as accurate as I thought it to be. So I'll focus on making it as cool as possible and if the overclocking MB is the problem I'll replace it.

I also can't believe BB chargers $50 to install a PS. I install them all the time and like someone esle said, it only takes about 5-10 minutes.

Anyway, thanks again for all the help. Any other suggestions? The VC I've got him, good VC for this game?
