Navigate to/via... doesn't work as it used to in SP5 or so it seems

Trainzing since 12-2003
I know the difference between Navigate via and Drive via and their cousins Navigate to and Drive to, so that's not the problem here. On my routes, depending upon the circumstances, Navigate via worked perfectly 99% of the time with an occasional change to Drive via, based on the situation. The other day, I fired up an older route I've been working on and gave the session a whirl only to find the drivers reversing as if they can't find some track markers but can find others. When running the route in SP4, there was no problem at all.

I initially thought this was due to an older session needing to be updated to SP5, but a save did nothing. For one driver, I removed and added the schedule back in from the Schedule Library and that worked. That led me down that rabbit hole only to find that the schedule didn't work the next time I started up the session, and this was Trainz being a typical dork as it led me by the nose hairs down the wrong path. I then did a DBR and slogged through the precaching again only to find that did diddlysquat and only wasted my time.

Anyone else come up with solution other than scrapping their sessions? This route is large and the session is quite complex with lots of portals, including iPortals, stations, and consists and I really hate having to redo it all over again.

Sure is frustrating!
Is it working now?
Not yet. The EDR has been running for nearly 15 hours so far and the faulty assets counter is 511782/779202 as the assets are validated. I started the repair at 17:30 yesterday.

N3V has to seriously fix this. An EDR was always a lengthy process but since SP3 came out, it's become stupidly slow.

These numbers concern me . . . 511782/779202
It's the total number of known assets and will vary depending upon how much content is installed plus how much is on the DLS, which I think is about 760K at the moment or a bit less, I'm going by memory.

Yes, I probably do have a lot of junk, but this is mostly from downloading routes requiring dependencies. I initially had well over 2.5 TB of data from previous versions of Trainz being carried over for the past 22 years of using Trainz but like most things we find in an old drawer or in the back of the fridge, it was time to clean it out. Content can be used from previous versions unlike other games such as TSW and RailWorks where DLC dies with a specific version and needs to be purchased over again.

Last year I deleted it all and started fresh, but as I reinstalled routes I worked on or downloaded, many dependencies came back and I also installed some new routes requiring more content. As a Trainz-Plus owner, I also have all the DLC content installed and the packaged content is included in this number as well as third-party content from Jointed Rail and other websites. The thing with Trainz is content isn't route specific including DLC downloaded from N3V's online store and that content is available to use for any route that's installed including those you've created yourself and these packages and their content adds up pretty quickly.

Your EDR shouldn't take that long mate, mind takes around 15 - 20 minutes on a good day

It's still going. Martinvk had his run long like this as well. Are you using Plus?
Yes, I have Trainz Plus Gold  ;)

Sounds to me that your database is corrupted, I hope I'm wrong! But the EDR shouldn't take this long to complete. I just hope it completes otherwise you may have to create a new database

Simply create a new folder within your Trainz user data folder, Trainz Settings | Install and change the path
move over

Once Trainz has generated a new database, test in a new session navigate via/to and if that works. That's good news, then you can move over your previous data folders

Local
Original
Packages

And do a EDR, and hopefully everything works out with a new database
Hopefully, it will help mate

The repair just finished and I am defragmenting my hard disk. Yes, I use a spinner for my data.
I sure hope this data isn't corrupted but this slow build has been an issue since at least SP3 and I'm not the only one who noticed this.

A regular database repair, not holding down the CTRL key only takes about 20 minutes if that. When holding the CTRL-key and clicking on database repair, that's the one that takes the longest for the EDR.

The EDR clears the caches and validates the content.
