Nature Screenshots! (BIG and NUMEROUS pictures!)

No probs there Casper :) its quite a cool feature, although the draw distance is reduced and lights on the signals and locos go a bit OTT when u zoom passed a certain point...

I always crop my photos before i post them on the forums, i figure it just makes it look better and the viewer can concentrate on the interesting bits of the pic if you see what i mean. (with you its all of the pic, hence no cropping, lol)

As for the coordinates in the bottom corner there, i can say ive never had them! Ill have a look at my settings and get back to you on that and see if i can find the option that causes it

Edit: Is this it? There is an option in the developer settings to turn it on and off, again, not sure how this is done in 04

The draw distance doesn't seem to cause a problem for me at the moment.

The view is displaying much more detail at the wide angle setting, but at the telephoto end of the view there is a whole lot less in the frame; its just a magnified view of a very small section of the wide angle shot.

I'm guessing that there should be no real reason for any visual artefacts. I'll see how it performs in other scenarios where I'm looking over several baseboards with a lot more assets.

I tend to crop mine within the frame of the Surveyor fixed or tracking camera so that the image "set up" can be used in Driver to good effect. If they are any good I'll post them as screenshots.

~snip~ image not repeated ~

I don't have that menu in '04, so don't think I can turn them off.:(

What is odd is that the coordinates didn't appear when I first went into Driver cab "walkabout" after tweaking the TrainzOptions file. However, they came back for all subsequent views. I have another play; hopefully there's a possible tweak in there somewhere which I've missed.

Zooming in

I’ve put together a bit more scenery around the bridge and am liking the newly “discovered” zoom function.

The foreshortening effect has opened up a whole new range of possibilities.

Thanks again scratchy!

Cheers

Dear Casper, it seems, we have to donate You a new version of trainz, because I fear You get lost next time. :hehe:

A very kind offer FSP, but I'm still getting the hang of my present version.;)

@jayholland

Thanks for the offer J. I can’t use it as is because the DLS won’t allow any new uploads to be downloaded to unsupported versions, even with an FCT.:(

I’d be more than happy to use a modified version of it if others are interested, if it’s not too much work for you and Robin.

Vendel’s looks good as a pre refurbished version of Victoria Bridge, but yours has the current colour scheme which would be a good match with scratchy’s original image which I'm attempting to copy. I might well have to rebuild some of the landscape to allow for the inevitable differences in dimensions but that’s unlikely to be too big a deal.

Cheers

I have just discovered that the 'full' version of the bridge, complete with towpath arch, failed to make it to the DS. It is now uploaded. I'll ask Robin if he would mind converting it. I could do it myself, but it means using an old computer, which is now getting a bit temperamental - like its owner:confused:

MOTHER OF LANDSCAPES!

Mezzo, I've just discovered your photograph in the "Screenshot of the week...." topic. Wow, and wow - close enough! :udrool:

But back to the bridge, I'm almost sure that I have some unpublished UK-styled assets on my HDs (for e.g. I remember a typical countryside railbridge I have modelled sometime). I will check it....

Thanks Vendie! And thanks for the bridge which I hope has been used to good effect. I was very happy with it. I hope you didn’t mind me burying each end into a German bridge so that I could expand it to include the stone supports!:D

Those unpublished UK bridges sound interesting!

Whilst I was putting that little scene together I began to find out some of the drawbacks that scratchy had mentioned regarding the zoom function.

Items like lights which have already been mentioned (and the sun!) look over large and a bit strange as the zoom is magnified.

However, what I also noticed was the disappearance of some of the smaller assets at long range. I had carefully placed some propane tanks and bin bags to match the items (and their colours) in the original Railpictures image. I can understand why this happens; at normal viewing range in Driver, from that distance, they would be too small and too far away to be seen. It was a bit of a disappointment to lose them.

The zoom “trick” therefore had to be a compromise between getting all of the items to show by going closer in, or framing the shot to the correct distance position (as identified on GE) and getting the right angles of view and foreshortening effect. I went for the latter.

Anyway, just to show some of the “lost” items, here’s a shot taken from a closer vantage point, which changes the viewing perspective, but allows the software to show the garbage bags and propane tanks etc.

The huge number of assets that are available gives such a wide range of choice which makes the search for the best match very time consuming, but very worthwhile. It makes this sim such a joy to use.

Thanks as always to all of the great creators, and to scratchy for introducing me to yet another versatile surprise in the Trainz software.

Bob very nice one and Casper what can I say

Hey bob very nice one this one but put some concrete foundations under the pilars of the bridge to make it look stronger in the creek:)
Casper nice onces sorry but I not have the time and spent already to much time on keeping up with picts on the forum but..........the many little corners you and people make so lovely from the heart I think you find on my corners and hot spots on my route which makes me kind of proud competing in a sportsman way differently but fair right?
Ok guys a cold snip and let's go heli skiing:cool:

next job is to look for weathered concrete and make the foundation look dirty so to speak coz for sure watere and dirt will smear the concrete other than gray

and probably the foundation on the hillside will be oval or sharp so debree and trees will not get stuck and flow in the best case on the side. Just me always looking for the perfect realistic possible angle like Mezzo
Looks good do much better now

This exactly makes the difference between a good and a perfect object.

My observation is, that most oversea images are on a high level of abstraction, painted with a monotonous green meadow and do not care about the thousand possible green's. Same with concretes. To select models for a good layout is an art itself.
