Thanks guys for your kind words.
Apologies for not responding sooner. I’ve been trying to sort out a gradient conundrum in one of the routes I’m building (and still am), so I've not been posting too much lately.
a cool character for sure.... ~snip~
I think that describes
Derelict Person by Dinorius_Redundicus very well.

I am sure mezzoprezzo has professional artist all along in his DNA too...He could make big bucks from behind an easel
I’m not sure that’s true. Besides, doing it for fun is easier than doing it for a living – no pressure.
Philosophically a huge pile of cash doesn't buy the rewards which can be achieved from a great sim like Trainz. I gave up chasing big bucks years ago. All you really require in life, financially, is 10 cents more in your pocket than you need.
Casper,
I love those mountains! Did you hand model those? If you did, you are one of few people that can hand model mountains. That is a gift, it takes minutes, even hours sometimes to get those to look as good as those do! I love it! Splendid work!
And of course, thanks for showing it to us! ~snip~
Thank you Chris.
The mountains are all hand modelled and textured. It takes minutes (quite a few though) to raise them. However it has taken many hours to perfect a reasonable technique.
There is a way of distorting the triangular polygons which can alter the angles of adjacent polygons and flip some of the textures. This helps to get the ridges and shading right and improves the 3D depth of the scene.
The rest is just exploiting the software, taming the vast number of available Surveyor tool combinations, and observing nature. Visiting the real thing can help, but is by no means essential with the immense resource of internet imagery.
I’m still learning! I’m never completely happy. There’s always something which could be improved on – I see that every time I post an image.
Better throw one in.
Here a bit of rural UK with some rolling hills, by way of a change from alpine peaks.
Cheers
