N3V Please confirm Trainz 12 will have a normal version

Welsh Narrow Gauge nut.
As the title says, will some one from N3V please confirm that Trainz 12 will have a normal retail version at a normal price and when it is likely to be available, before the forums get full of more negative posts and threads about the cost.
I don't think many people are getting the point about "Collectors Editions" and are assuming that this is going to be the only Trainz 12 ever released, nothing you have provided in information has indicated otherwise, so you can't blame them for assuming the worst.

It should go without saying really - it's common for games to be offered for pre-order with some extra toys, often at a premium price. I'm forever telling my 15 year old son it's not worth the extra... Plus the blurb for the fancy box says it's a limited edition.

My money's on about $90-100 retail for standard DVD editions on release.

Malc,

You are correct in your post.

I agree that the Collectors Edition should command the cost to produce it. Trainzers who want to own that collection will pay the price.

But, if N3V had also said that TS12 would be available as a download or a dvd without all the "fluff" would have gone a long way in reducing all the negative comments that we see.

Have fun,

I'm sure they want to sell as many copies at a premium as they can, and the limited edition numbered up to 2500 is designed to do just that. It isn't probable that they will discontinue selling the new version after the 2500 have sold out, so I'm pretty sure there will be a no frills version sold later. Right now they are trying to move the 2500, so if they published that it will be available later at a reduced price that would work against their goal.
I'm fairly confident the version will sell later, less the extra content, and less the high price, I just hope they don't drop the price of the limited edition, as that wouldn't please those who put out the cash now.

Ed,

As usual, your comments are sensible and logical.

Perhaps some of the profits generatd from the collectors edition will help to enhance the DLS and MP servers going forward.

Ron

I knew you don't really read my posts!:hehe:

As for the remainder of your post, I hope they use the profits in whatever way they can to further the progress of Trainz. I don't know how much profit there is to be made after development costs, and publishing, and distribution of the program itself, but the remaining paper items in the package can't cost much! Of course, if they sell only 2500 of this package it may not amount to much anyway. Then we have to figure in the costs associated with the winning golden tickets... but maybe they aren't planning on releasing anything over the next five years (unlikely :hehe:)!

I think the best plan of action is for the first 2500 buyers to pre-order ASAP, so we can get past all this speculation!:D

Finally in my life to be a "Have". Seeing those noses pressed against the glass whimpering:'( Priceless:p

Ah, the good life

I would like to see some information on the recommended system requirements. I am not going to preorder software that my computer cannot run smoothly or at all. My guess would be an Intel I5 or equivalent with 4-6 GB of DDr3 RAM running WIN 7 64 bit and 1GB of vdeo RAM. Where does that leave my venerable P4, WIN XP system?

Ans. In the dust bin of history.

Tom,

I would think that the latest version would share similar specs as those for TS2010, which it's built upon. So yeah, it's probably at least a dual core system.

John: I was basing my guess on the posted screen shots. High resolution and apparently unlimited view distance. It will be interesting to see what they come out with.

Now I don't want to sound smug but, if you're still running a P4 and XP yup, venerable would be a good word to use to describe it...

You're so far beyond the average service lifetime of either that you got your money's worth, and unless you're just going to run 2006 you might want to consider taking that old clunker and retiring it...

Just a thought...

Now I see you have 2009, and I'll bet it runs 2006 better than 2009, am I right?

System specs

Zec, if you are watching, can you give us the specs?

'erbie sez 'e doesn't understand why specs haven't been prominently displayed.

Linda sez hello youngling.

Aloha,

Trainz 09 does run better than 06, but not that much. Perhaps 10-15% better in some areas. In dense areas, with a lot of track, scenery and buildings, they both choke up and FPS drop around 5. In open areas, I get 20-25 fps. Not too bad for a 6 year old system. But you are correct. Nothing lasts forever and it is time to move on. I just hate to part with a system that has been trouble free and dependable, day in and day out for so long. It's like losing an old friend.

The majority of negative comments are due to:

1. The lack of understanding of the "Limited Collectors Edition" concept.
2. The lack of understanding of how a business conducts it's first announcement to the public... in light of potential competition (ie not giving away too much)... and a means of piquing interest (ie "watch this space").
3. The lack of interesting things in people lives, and therefore whinging and whining is their means of attracting attention. Add to this their own self perceived, cry-baby, whiny assed manner of being in control of something (even though in actuality this is of zero importance).
4. The general epidemic of rectal-cranial inversion that has affected some members of the community.

:D

Auran/N3V are at this point at fault for nothing at all. IF they under-deliver, then that's a different story... but that's a bridge to cross or fall off AFTER it has been released.

Holy crap Forest did someone leave the gate open and you got out and went for a run.
I know what a collector is because i collect antiques, and i can tell you it will take a long time before these collector's items are really worth some money and that will be if they are never opened in the first place ,so only then are they worth money if they don't fall apart before hand.
Now get back inside before the neighbors see you.
Remember only if they are never opened in the first place.

Well said, Forest Runner.

I agree, what's the big deal?

I like the last bullet: rectal-cranial inversion. :D

Not just specs but an actual listing of new features. Much as I'd like to support Auran, I'm not going to buy a product based on a brief advertisement, in which the only faintly interesting feature mentioned is "satellite view" (and then only if it fixes the constantly changing draw distance issue). It takes enough time to fix all of the assets broken by each new version that upgrading to a new one requires a major incentive any more. (Yes, I know these assets were already broken by Auran's definition--perhaps a better phrase would be "with freshly revealed flaws").

How about a simple list of what's been added/fixed? It might sell a few more copies. (And for many of us new routes don't count--we're interested in building our own, not just running someone else's creations).
