Monorail, Maglev, and other alternate screenshots

Hey Jay,

Great work - looking forward to this layout!!

On side note, I see many of my buildings, so hopefully those are the updated night mode buildings, so perhaps a night shot might come in handy!:hehe:

Check these out.

Monorail Black is pulling away from University Street station. The shrubs have been planted there to keep people away from the power substation.

Any time I work with a monorail or any other kind of elevated trains, I try to avoid as many direct crossovers and simply raise one beam over the other. Here is the end result. This is taken from the street corner just outside of the main Police Operations Building.

Monorail Red is working it's way over the upper beam and threading it's way between some rather large buildings.

Does this give you any idea of how large some of these buildings are? Imagine having a dedicated monorail system for city trainsportation rather than buses. This would alleviate some of the traffic issues we see in major cities today. The sad fact is that so many people complain about how polluted cities are but nothing is ever done to fix it. Using a monorail would be a HUGE step in the right direction.

Hi Jay,

Great stuff -- whenever you do upload the layout start a new thread dedicated for it, LOL:hehe:

Ishie

On a side note: If you're running any trainz version with CMP then it will automatically update the buildings as soon as you download them -- all of the updated structures use the same kuids! None of the buildings details in your last screen shots have been updated yet! Tomorrow replacing my video card in the desktop so I'll update those and upload -- then perhaps a night shot! LOL

Hey Jay,

Those tram stations, do they come with trainz or did you get them from the DLS?

Thanks:)
Ishie

I believe they're in TRS06 especially if you have routes 1 through 4 as the M-line tram route is included in one of those sets.

You can get them from the DLS. Look under Monorail stations.
It's going to be a while before I upload this layout. I haven't started on some of my other surprises for this route.

Thanks -- I look into it!!

Yeah, that's understood -- my own layout has taken a year, etc ... I jsut on it here and there, loose interest, and then come back to it! LOL

That sounds a lot like me. When I work on a layout, I like to make it look as efficient and realistic as possible and that takes a LOT of time to do it right.

Yeah, LOL

Actually, I have three layouts, one of which a very good friend of mind in these forums did as a request last year!

I should upload it but I get lazy. I am upgrading with my new buildings, so that's the only modification I am doing to it... it's a high speed (55miles long) ... just a straight line- He did a superb job with the scenery, to have such a length route. He also said to upload using my kuids, so it just been sitting in my files, like wine... :hehe:

Actually, no. This is one of the default routes that came with TRS2006. I figured it was time for a change and show the Maglev. Look for the Maglev in the future.

I see... yeah, it did look similar to me, :hehe: ...

For a while now I've been thinking of the same thing... even perhaps make some stations dedicated to the monorail, LOL

... Great looking shots there Jay!! ...:udrool:

There are quite a few stations dedicated to the monorail already. As an FYI, I have tried to modify the monorail stations to handle the Maglev and found it won't work due to the track spacing. The same goes with getting the Maglev stations to handle the monorail. The monorail trains are narrower and don't sit as high as the Maglev does.
One thing I have managed to make work is modifying the default airport to handle both the monorail and maglev. The downside is you can't elevate the beams. Look for some pics in the near future.

Hello all,

As I metioned in my previous posting, I tried doing some changes with various stations to see if the Maglev or Monorail trains would be interchangeable. Unfortunately, I had very little success with some of them. Here are a few shots to show what I mean.

Here is a monorail basic station. I was able to attach the Maglev beam to the track and it automatically changed over. As you can see the Maglev is way too wide to work successfully.

screen001wr.jpg

Here is Monorail Orange at the same station. As you can tell, it can fit the monorail with no trouble.

screen002om.jpg

Here's another example. This is a typical train station where it would use standard gauge track. I simply attached a monorail beam to one end and it changed over automatically. Notice that the monorail train is too high for passengers without some changes. This station would not be practical for use with the monorail or maglev due to their height.

screen007ea.jpg

This has a much better chance of looking more realistic. Passengers would have a little bit of a step up and wheelchairs could be accomodated by placing a ramp at the doorway to the car.

screen008p.jpg

This is a rather tricky one to work with. I downloaded this elevated station a while back and have been playing around with it here and there. There are 2 standard gauge tracks when you place it. The trick to this is to use the monorail beam called "unsupported station beam" . If you use another beam that IS supported, you'll have support beams poking out through the underpass.

A couple of final notes: A typical monorail or elevated station sits at a 7.0 elevation.
In this simulation, you can build a monorail train as long or as short as you want to. In real life, Disneyland (California) uses a 5 car train (cab on each end and 3 cars in the center) and Disneyworld (Florida) uses a 6 car train (cab on each end and 4 cars in the center). The trains, once built are not easily separated and move as one solid unit.

Hey Jay...

I like you, how you conduct yourself in these forums, etc always very respectable ... so my good friend, this is what I am going to do for you!!!

I'll make some monorail elevated stations of your liking ... I'll take what you have noted on these posts, and put it into practice ... Also, if there's specific monorail that's given you issues, then tell me who created them, and I'll see about attaining the permission, and extending on their idea, etc.

Also, I can't locate the thread, so just take my word for it, LOL, I'm huge fan of aviation .... I can also make a stations which can easily fit with Auran default airport, however, you might have to use the basic airport. Additionally, sitting in my files are over a dozen drivable airplanes, airport pieces, new terminals, parking lots, etc .. whenever I revisit that project, I'll keep in mind your monorail project ... yeah, I enjoy monorail myself, so all we benefit from these items, LOL

You take care
Ishie

BTW, great shots!
