Mom's back, with a freaky problem

*walking in slow-motion*
Hello everyone,

So I'm trying to uninstall TC and TRS2006 and I go to Add or Remove Programs and choose Trains Classics and click to remove the program, and - nothing. The navy box flickers to white and back to blue again and that's it. Same thing when I click on "remove" for TRS.

I've never had this happen before with anything I've uninstalled. And it's happening *only* for TC and TRS - if I click on any other program it takes me to the screen asking me to confirm I want to continue.

I uninstalled TRS once before when I installed SP1 and this didn't happen then. What the heck? I've tried restarting the computer and that didn't help.

I really hope one of you can tell me what's going on!

I don't have either TC or TRS2006 installed so this is just a guess, but have you tried doing the uninstall thing with the game CD in the CD drive?

The other guess is to ask if there is an "uninstall" option in the Windows "All programs" menus for TC or TRS2006?

Cheers

Dean

Most of the time I am unable to use add/remove programs to uninstall trainz if needed as it's on my e:
So if I have reformatted my system it dosen't show up in the programs group so I just delete the Auran folder & reinstall.I haven't had any problems yet & if there is something left over it usually asks if I want to uninstall when I put the disk in.So I just uninstall & reinstall from the disk.

Hi,

As Dave says, one quick way is to use File explorer to manually delete the folder (usually in C:\Program files\Auran) - you may need to set the folder to "not protected" - i.e. allow read/wrtie access.

If you do this, then use the "Start" "Run" commands and then type "regedit" in the box.

If you then examine the folders in the windows, you'll find some with "software" and "local machine". remove all the Auran subfolders; close to save.

you've now "cleaned the Registry" and become an advanced Microsoft user!

If there's any content you want to save, read the instructions for updating to SP1 before deleting anything (the first bit tells you how to keep any content).

You should now be able to re-install any of the programs you want.

Cheers,
Colin

Mom,
I found a similar problem where it seems like nothing is happening. WAIT! You have to wait awhile. There is a lot of stuff involved with Trainz. It took minutes or longer for me to uninstall '06 on my BIG PC so, wait...;) It takes time. Windows is working, believe me.

Any uninstall works the same way as opening a programme. The computer needs to read all the files to check which ones need to be deleted. The dispatcher folder is normaly read but because they are not auran files they are left behind after deleting. Dispatcher files are third party and not part of the original set up.
