Missing d3dx9_42.dll? (loading up content manager)

I have the Trainz 2010 - Engineers Edition using Vista 64 bit.

When I try to load the content manager it loads up fine, but then half way it crashes and gives me back an error message and closes.

ContentManager.exe - Unable To Locate Component : This application has failed to start because d3dx9_42.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

You need to install the latest DX9 runtime...

Vista does include a version of DX9, but (despite the fact that MS haven't bumped the version number for like 4 years) DX9 has been updated several times since then. The vista included version of DirectX 9 wasn't even 'current' compared to XP versions when vista was released - which caused a lot of problems for other games.

One of the changes made since Vista was released, to DX9, is that they added the system of numbering minor versions with the '_42' part of the filename.

Get the runtime from :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en

or

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=0cef8180-e94a-4f56-b157-5ab8109cb4f5

(First is the 'web installer' which is a tiny download that downloads the rest, second is the full redist package).

Thanks a lot! :) Now it loads up perfectly.

So let get this straight the content manager is where you can download what other people have made and gain much more trains/routes etc.

It seems by just downloading the game and installing it there isn't much there and most seems to be demos until you start using the content manager? correct?

All users who are looking for DirectX runtime files should only use the Microsoft site.

Downloading from third-party sites significantly increases the chance of getting a virus.

My sticky thread in this forum will assist with this (Updating DirectX 9.0C - How to do it)

EDIT: Due to some odd goings on, the thread mentioned in this post is no longer sticky. However, it can be reached through my DXInstallHelper thread which is a sticky.

Engineerkenny.. Hi this almost same thing is happening excepet it shows the eerror thing that tells you why and then you have to hit ok to exit :(

Please read my sticky thread in this forum for instructions on how to fix this error.

Only download DirectX updates directly from the Microsoft site.

@Pearlss: You also need to go to the top of this page and click the Serial Number link ro register your game. You are not showing any registered versions of Trainz and that makes it difficult to give you any advice.
