Merging 2010 into 2012

A couple of weeks ago there were posts on this forum from members who had sucessfully merged 2010 and other content into 2012 but each said that there had to be no errors in the older content.
Does that mean that even all assets with missing shadow meshes will need to be fixed? Cheers

It means that TS12 is compatible with content that would run in native mode in 2010…

Native mode is the important phrase there. There's actually content dating back to version 1.0 built-in to TS12 but that content had been either not faulty in 2010 or had been fixed to run in native mode.

TS12 will claim that it doesn't support anything lower than 2.7, but that's really a misnomer for the most part as there is content that is labeled 1.0 installed as built-in.

More than likely they're not gonna allow you to install anything that's earlier than 2.7 or that has not been fixed so that it will run as native mode content in 2010…

Now as far as merging 2010 and TS 12, yes it can be done, you just have to copy your JA files from 2010 over into the TS12 directory, enter your 2010 serial number and run a database repair. Now all that's going to do for you is give you all of 2010s built-in assets. Some of those assets may show up as faulty, I didn't check them all when I did it at first, I thought about it afterwards and reinstalled TS12 as a standalone because I do not want the hundreds of thousands of assets that I'll never use cluttering it up. I'll just keep 2010 in its own directory and TS12 in its own directory and keep it virgin…

It runs a lot faster that way in content manager and CMP etc.

No they will work just shows a warning if you if competely warning free then yes you will need to but if will work with warnings not errors

The warning side of Beattie:p

For me copying TS2010 built in files to TS12 did not work for everything. The Razorback Railway route just crashes the Sim whether opened in Driver or Surveyor.
I also seem to have a lot more script errors in TS12 than I had before.

Other routes, for example All Amsterdam3, worked perfectly well in TS2010 native mode, but they will not load in TS12.

Hope there's a patch soon.

Just looked at Razorback classic and it's got a ton of assets dating back to 1.3

I'm not sure about all Amsterdam3 as I don't see that in the list of built-in routes for 2010.

Have you tried going out and looking at any of the assets that are giving you script errors? Seeing what their build version is and maybe checking for errors?

Instead of just blaming TS12 and hoping for a patch that probably isn't going to fix old content, why not be proactive and figure out why…

While I have not got TS12 yet (I will soon), this seems the best thread to maybe ask this question.

Auran/N3V have made available to registered 2012 users the 2010 built-on content via the DLS. A lot of this content has a build less then 2.7 in 2010.

So has Auran/N3V changed the build numbers in the 2010 built-in content???

One layout (a merged series or layouts) I have and looked at yesterday has a lot of built-in content (2010) and a few hundred of these items are build 1.3 let alone the rest.

Thanks for any advice.

I'm not really sure how they're doing it, I do know however if you go into CMP TS12 plainly states that nothing below 2.7 is supported.

On the other hand as I stated above, there is 1.0 content built-in to TS12. I have personally put assets into TS12 that showed warnings as far as build version, they were warnings and they didn't affect how the asset looked or was used in TS 12. Now that's not to say that some scripted assets might not work. I haven't tried to be perfectly honest with you.

I've read various reports of certain scripted assets not working, some are obviously false (like the one about Lars being dead in TS12) because I use a custom Lars container track all day long in TS12 without an issue.

I'm sure some are actually having problems with certain scripted assets. Whether that will be addressed in service packs or patches, I have no way of knowing.

I do however believe that the vast majority of content related issues with TS12 have to do with someone trying to shoehorn a faulty asset that worked under compatibility mode in 2010 but shows up faulty in TS12.

I found quite a few assets that showed faulty right off the bat and that just needed a couple of items deleted in CMP. Things that have industry icons for example or certain types of other icons, those will show up as faulty in my experience and it's just a matter of going in and deleting those and the assets seem to work just fine.

The Razorback Railway was a TS2010 built in. TS12 is supposed to be backward compatible with TS2010 content. Since the TS2010 version of Razorback will not run in TS12 this is clearly not the case.

Being proactive I have spent a countless number of hours fixing assets to work in TS2010 native mode. Again, once error free and TS2010 verified I don't think it's unreasonable to expect them to work in a version which claims to be TS2010 backwards compatible.

As for the script errors, you clearly have some magical crystal ball or other means of identifying the errors that I don't have. If you can possibly tell me how to find the illusive offending industry or consist from the vast number in the session, or which part of the Quickdrive set up is wrong when I press the more button, then I shall be pleased to listen.

I was not "blaming" TS12, in fact I think it brings some innovative enhancements, it seems to run smoother than TS2010 for a start. I was merely pointing out that I had copied the built in files from TS2010 to TS12 and it had caused some problems. Yes, I do hope for a patch as clearly some things are broken, again, I don't think this is unreasonable.

I don't wish to start a war with you, so this post will be my last on the subject. But maybe you ought to consider being a little less offensive in your posts. Put your brain into gear before you open your mouth, as they say.

Thanks for the thoughts mrscsi. I hope to order 2012 (I am going to call it 2012 and not TS12 or just 12, why they changed I have no idea :hehe:) and I think it will be a matter of finding out what works and what does not and then adjust to it.

I do not use Native mode in 2010 however now that a lot of content has been fixed with the DLS Cleanup process and hopefully more will follow I can now start thinking of Native mode more.

I think I will have a very careful look at what content I transfer over from 2010.

Offensive?

I merely stated the obvious

As far as my crystal ball I made that plain as well, if it works and it's something I want I use it, if it doesn't work and it's something I want I try to fix it, if I can't fix it I delete it and move onto something else. No real magic there.

Maybe you should put in a help desk ticket and find out why the Razorback doesn't work in TS 12, couldn't hurt, but I guess that suggestion is being too offensive…:hehe:

Not really entering this conversation, just making sure that something is clear:

Scenarios have been discouraged since TRS2006 and are no longer supported as of TS12 or TS2010 MP. This isn't news, please read the details on the wiki.

kind regards,

chris

Hi Chris
I wasn't refering to the scenerios, I understand that point. The Razorback route itself will not load into Surveyor in TS12, it was built into the ja files of TS2010 and loaded and worked OK. It could be my setup of course, but I have tried it on two different installations and on both the route will not even load, TS12 just crashes to desktop. Hope there is a fix, such superb content surely cannot be left to stagnate in earlier versions.

I generally believe that Auran's stricter policy in terms of content is more of a drawback than a bonus, primarily because it means all of the content creators have to rework their content for TS12 compatibility. Many of the creators of popular assets are no longer active, so those assets are permanently lost to all who own TS12 exclusively, such as myself. In addition, some of Auran's assets (i.e. the TC Harlem Line) show up as faulty in TS12. This has not been a problem until very recently, but I just felt I should point that out to the community.

Old news I'm afraid, plenty of threads on this.
There is an ongoing DLS cleanup exercise where the faulty stuff is gradually being repaired which I think covers this.

Myself I have had no problem getting old stuff to work in TS12 as I fixed it all for 2010. Again plenty of info on here on how to repair things yourself if you can't wait for them to be repaired as part of the program.

Merging 2012

I had problems merging 2012 maps with older ones. Try the following.

Open one map you wish to use. Open layers. Change the name in the top box from route-layer to merge-layer. Save the map with a new name.

Re open the newly named map. Go to merge maps and choose the other map and it will merge.

Hope this helps you out.:)

Hello
I tried your suggestion by merging two large routes but this don't work.
