Making older content compatible with new?

alexl102

Learning... slowly!
A lot of the content I've downloaded from the DLS says 'Items with a build number of 2.7 or less are no longer supported' or something to that effect.
Is there an easy way to update the build number to make it work? I realise it may not be that simple and I've no experience with any kind of editing of content.

Also, is there anyway of making the Talyllyn locos and stock (available from their website) work in 2009 or later?

Thanks.

That's only a warning, so it can be ignored for now.

Ominous words, Shane!:hehe:

As Shane said, the yellow exclamation point is only a warning and doesn't really mean anything as far as the assets working in game, but if you search the forums, a lot of stuff is pretty easy to fix by just fixing a few lines in the config file. Some things will need special tools that aren't available on the Mac, though, so you won't be able to fix everything.

Cheers!
Shane, I'm only concerned because some content isn't working as a result.

I'm sorry if I sound lazy but can you suggest any relevant threads or search terms? I seached 'build number 2.7' but because it searches for each individual word I got every thread ever to mention any of those 3 words!

Hi Al,

Sometimes an asset may show the yellow bang, but it has other issues as well. I have found that if an asset still doesn't work even with only a yellow bang, that the errors will show if I open it up for editing.

If you list some of your errors you are receiving, perhaps we can help you. A lot of them are pretty easy such as typographical errors in the config.txt files.

Al,

I downloaded the asset myself and gave it a try using the convention Windows tools. This asset is just plain broken and can't be fixed using the conventional tools. including PEV Software's PM2IM, which you don't have. I even started a set of instructions to guide you on the repair. See below. I left the instructions anyway because they are relevant for other assets that exhibit the same issue.

The repair instructions that should have worked for this asset:

The texture and the corresponding .texture.txt file is missing from the shadow folder.

In Content Manager:

Right-click on the asset.

Choose -- Open the asset for editing using your file manager. On Windows we use Explorer. I can't remember the name for the MAC version. :)

A window will open up showing the contents of the asset.

Open up the steam_tram_body folder

Copy the back-white-black.texture.txt and the same-named .TGA file to the steam_tram_shadow folder.
