Macbook Air WiFi connection issues

Not a Trainz issue, but maybe someone can offer some advice. I bought my wife a Macbook Air last Christmas, and recently it stopped connecting to our WiFi. It just scans and scans and finds no WiFi, even though our WiFi is working fine and connecting other devices such as an iPad. I talked to them on the phone and they said bring it in to the store (a 50 mile round trip). They took it and kept it for a week and gave it back to me with a new Airport/Bluetooth card. Took it home. Didn't work. Made another appointment and took it in to the store again. The tech fiddled with the configuration somehow and got it to work. Drove home. It worked, wife happy, for about an hour, then died. No connection to WiFi. I am getting really sick of these trips to the store. Has anyone here run into a similar problem and what did you do about it? (Keep it clean!)

Thank you clam1952. It does certainly sound like it is a software problem. Mine's a 2012 Macbook but it sounds like the same bug. This will give me something to hammer them with when I next talk to them.

The penalty for no Ethernet connection, you can get an Apple USB to Ethernet adapter so you can connect to a router by cable and get the update, alternatively knowing Apples extortionate pricing may be cheaper to get a Pay as you Go 3G dongle just to get the update.
