Longest Train Ever Probably Was In America and Not Australia????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and I can tell that outta of everyone on this website I think no one here on the forum was around when Big Boys dominated the Union Pacific for nearly 20 years.

The last revenue train hauled by a Big Boy was in July 1959, and I can assure you I was about for most of the fifties. :D

Australia Has done it! The record will remain till broken!

For gods sake can you guys just face the facts that us Aussies are better then you at something :o .

I will Second that!;)

~Video~hi,

(if you got about 8 minutes to spare this might clear up things.)

Nice video. Without looking at the caption, I first thought it was shot in the south central USA perhaps in the Texas Panhandle or even eastern New Mexico because the terrain and soil-color is similar. While traveling in that area over the past few weeks, I saw numerous 110-150-plus coal trains running and I thought they were long!

Its Fake

The rumor about 2 bigboys hauling 7 miles of carriages is wrong.

Its a rumor, it dusnt mean its true
P.S Check out Willem2's new screenshots of coal being taken down to newcastle.

Cheers,

well after running this through my head....

Norfalk and Western was using 5 engines per 2 mile coal train. How is 2 big boys gunna pull a 7 mile train, add the drawbar stress and knucle stress into that and I pretty much just floored that idea.

I wouldnn't go as far as to say it's impossible. If time teaches us anything it's that anything is. The reason we don't do this in the states? Because we move more than one train a day. Most of the states is rolling terrain. Even the flatlands of the dakotas and iowa are not "flat". Very few terminals can handle more than a 10,000+ft. train. We usually deliver to more than one customer. There's not a conductor in this country that's going to walk any 7 mile train to change a knuckle or ten. It's a special circumstance. Do the Aussies get some gusto for accomplishing such a thing? Yes:clap: . There it is. I am in awe. If you want to talk volumes of trains and tonnages hauled BHP is a fart in the wind compared to the US. BHP moves 110 million tons of ore per year. A very respectable figure until you hear that every day 3 130+ car unit coal trains leave the PRB for Superior Wisconsin delivering 21 million tons of coal per year. Which is substantially less until you figure out where the other 51 130+ car unit coal train are going. 19000tons X 54 daily trains X 365= 374,490,000 tons of COAL. That's it? Oh wait that's just the BNSF. Then you can add in Uncle Petes 37 trains. 19000tons X 37 daily trains X 365= 256,595,000 + 374,490,000= 631,085,000 tons of COAL. That's just two of the Western Giants. Not to mention Norfolk Southerns and CSXs daily COAL loadings. And that's just COAL! You want to preach about how great how great distributed power is we already know, we invented it, perfected it, and have been using for over forty years. :p

BHP is king until proven otherwise.....

Boot Hill Properties is king of the iron hill until proven otherwise.......:hehe:

That sure is a whole load of "Global Warming" you Americans are doing :(
How about giving the planet a chance, and cutting down on fossil fuel usage.

We aren't the only ones there pal:p China and India are guzzeling down more then ever(the reason why gas proves are sky high and charge an arm and a leg per fill up)

Personally, (I live on top of 25% of the world's coal reserves)(Coal Country) I would like to see the USA generate 100% electricity from coal and 25% gasoline from coal. Currently, USA burns 1.2 billion tons of coal a year while China burns 2.4 billion tons a year.....So we have a lot of catching up to do.:hehe:

Yes, i agree with our Aussie Mates here, BHP mastered the longest train. Its highly unlikely 2 bigboys did such a task, and like mentioned before even on flat ground, a train of that size would still ethier string out or several draw bars would be have to be replaced. BHP mastered the longest train in 2001 and back in the 80s(was it then?) when they had those monster ALCo C636m's. God, i'd of liked to see those monsters at work. They hauled a some 500+ Ore cars with 4 C636m's. Those units were beastly compaired to your everyday ALCo. Im surprised one of those AC6000CWs didnt shoot a rod through the block with that much strain haha.

And it's because the USA thinks like that, that this planets in such a mess. :'(
