Lighting the fire

I suppose this should have been posted in prototype, but I wasn't sure so...
How does one light that coal fire?
Is it some newspapers under a shovel full of coal, or...?

Tried to search for it, and found interesting things, but not the initial "light it" how to.

Gallon of gas and a match? :o

Pretty much same as charcoal, use lighter fluid or paper and kindling wood to get it going. I worked at Kiddieland years ago, and this thing;

We used a rigged up pipe and hose connected to a natural gas line with burners sticking out, shoved that into the firebox to get the coal started and it took about 4 hours from cold iron to get steam up. The loco by itself empty weighed 4000 pounds, boiler held 75 gallons of water. Going by that I would guess it takes a lot longer to get steam up in a real loco.
