I downloaded a level crossing and when I checked it I found that the gates close off the rr tracks. Where would I use that?????

Souinds like a British crossing. There's supposed to be a fence there. It keeps livestock and pedestrians from wandering onto the track while the crossong is open, then closes off the crossing while the train goes by.
Rry running a train through it and see how it works.

It is called level crossing half-gate by Shoves. My point is that the gates close over the rail tracks.

Never mind. I get it now. It is a cattle crossing. Sorry I was so stupid.

Just extend some farm-esque fencing from the cattle crossing and you'll never have to use that cow-catcher on the front of the train.

This will also force the cows to use a station if they want to be on the rails.
