Kuju's Rail Sim

I really should save a text file somewhere on my harddrive so I can just Copy&Paste each time one of these threads pops up.

For those of you who need to 'belong' to one camp or another, have fun with whatever floats your boat.

I use both Trainz and KRS, and although I only develop for Trainz, I don't feel the need to slate KRS.

Anyone who's been here long enough knows how bad a trainsim can be, and how it can evolve into something quite special.
Why would any true train fan not want another sim to prosper?

Another thing most of us have seen is how the development of a trainsim can be stunted when there isn't competition to push them on, and I personally would love to see Trainz, KRS and MSTS2 fully supported and developed over the coming years.

Buying all 3 is hardly going to break the bank.

Smiley.

This is a forum a place for people to post their views.

Or do you believe you have some special status, where only your opinion counts.

I run or have run all the commercial train games, plus BVE over the last 7 years.

My opinion for what it is worth, is that RS is a pile of crud.

As an ex railwayman i can give you 50 reasons why it does not cut it as a "simulator".

It definately does not live up to the pre-release or packaging "advertising spin".

Both MSTS & Trainz have their good and bad points.

RS is just a mess, IN MY OPINION.

IKB.

I agree too Smileyman. And with hard drives as large as they, there's even room for all three to coexist on the same computer and not even know each other is there. In fact you could go as far as putting all the versions of Trainz plus MSTS1, MSTS2 and RS, and still have room for more.

I cannot give you an un-biased review because on amazon.co.uk they only have Windows Vista copies of KRS, and I operate XP and will NEVER have Vista.....ever.......never.......ever........And the only XP disc I could find was the American sim version, and I don't want that one....Sorry, all you Union Pacific fans...

However, I did some reading whilst I was on their site and the facts are :-

43 Customer reviews, 25 gave the game 2 stars or less, only 5 people gave it 5 stars. The game averages 2.5 stars out of 5.....
Since last October, the price of the sim has nearly halved. Everyone says that the game was despatched way too soon, all add-ons are quite expensive - if you need 3 or 4, it'll cost over £100 to get them all.

Hmmm, sorry, but I'll stick with Trainz.

Cheerz. ex-railwayman.

EWWW Union Pacific:hehe: (How dare they take all of my favorite Railways. SP, DRGW, Mopac) Sorry to all of you UP fans also.

Clearly you think your opinion carries more weight.

When I was a wee 10 year old (30 long years ago now, lol) I used to get the occasional Cab-Ride if the steel trains stopped at the lights outside Llanwern Steelworks.
This probably happened less than a dozen times, and apart from Trainspotting til I was about 12 (and discovered Girls, lol), and commuting from Newport to Gloucester and Bristol for many years on and off, that is the sum total of my Train Knowledge.

And yet my opinion on KRS is as valid as yours.

KRS is not great, but I've already used it more than I used MSTS.

Incidentally, my brother-in-law has worked on the trains for more than 40 years, and whenever I show him one of the sims, he shows complete disinterest, saying that they're all a mile from the real thing, and that he really wouldn't enjoy anything about them.

If I was to listen to him I wouldn't use any of them, and that proves that the only opinion anyone should listen to is their own, and damn the rest.

:hehe:

Well, as far as I can tell, most people do only heed their own opinions, unless they are married, in which case they only heed their wife's opinions!:'(

And boy, there are usually enough of those!:hehe:

Hey All

Sorry but I have to close this thread. There have already been too many of these "My dog is bigger than your dog threads". Discussions of other Sims are fine but please don't turn these into a flamefest.

Cheers

AJ
