K&L Trainz Steam Locomotive pics!

Steve, I've got a few quick questions, is there a way for the drive rods on front and rear set of drive wheels not to be 'in sync' with each other? By this, I mean is there a way to have the drive rods on the front set of drive wheels be at the bottom of the wheel's revolution while the drive rods on the rear set of drive wheels are at the top of the wheel's revolution? Also, can you somehow recreate the front set of drive wheels slipping while the rear set of drive wheels don't slip, as in this video?

well jordan
when you place a articulated loco like the big boy or the y6 on the tracks all the roods are the same at the bottom when you run it for a certain amount of time the rods differ in placement ones up and ones down.
and hopefully he puts a different steam sound more articulated

Everyone needs to check out the progress shots and videos of this engine on the K&L Facebook page. The video of the engine posted a week or so ago shows the rods are not in sync.
So apparently I DID figure out how to get them out of sync.

Its trainz. Not real life. Be grateful for what steve IS doing.

I know that. And I'm glad he's doing this beauty. I'm looking forward to 1218 and 611 being done. Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion that the Southern steamer will be 4501. If they're doing both 611 and 1218, doesn't make sense that 4501 won't be far behind? And if they do make 4501, it would be awesome if 4501's promo video is of that epic triple-header that I so wish I could have seen.

I saw the video, but when I clicked on it, it said that I need to install Flash Player, so I was unable to see that. EDIT: Just watched the video, and she looks darn good.

Hadn't even thought about the triple header, that was 4501 that looked a bit sad, dark/sooty smokebox and faded paint. I can imagine the K&L quality on 4501, it would be amazing. K&L would be great with 630/722 because who else but K&L (and a few others) would go the extra mile and do the Southern Style Valve Gear.

I once tried to get them to do 630, but they wouldn't do it. Can't remember for certain why, but it could have been because she wasn't made by Alco instead of Baldwin, or that she has a Southern valve gear, which I guess will take up a lot more time to make than a Baker or Walschaerts valve gear. The guys at K&L Trainz have direct access to the archives of Baldwin Locomotive Works, not Alco.

Well 722 is Baldwin built, the only MAJOR aesthetic differences are the smokebox front handrail has a sharper curve on 630, and 722 has rectangular windows on the front where 630's have sloped sides along the boiler. So do 722 and then a slight modification to 630. At some time 630 was also stripped of her "Asheville Look" cylinder covers showing the bolted cylinder heads, where 722 still has the smooth "beauty covers".

First off, I have access to all builders archives, not just Baldwin. No idea where you got that idea.

Second, you are aware that between Baker, Walscharts and Southern, Baker is the most complicated one out of the 3. And I now have 7 or 8 engines with Baker. Southern is cake compared. I don't refuse to make content because its "too hard to make". I choose not to make content because either someone else is making it, or because I prefer to make something else. I never made it before because Chance was making one.

I had forgotten that trainman7616 was working on one at the time. Such a shame that he decided to stop working on it. Also, I thought that the Southern valve gear would be more difficult because it's not as common as the other valve gears. As for the me thinking that you had 'better access' to Baldwin's archives, I was actually thinking of how you consult with people 'directly connected' to the prototype (i.e. Ross Rowland with 614) instead of relying solely on videos, books, pictures, etc, or (forgive me for what I'm about to say) is able to access information on the prototype that you can't, such as, maybe an archivist.
