Chris, I've had this problem a lot lately but have had good luck turning off the texture compression. Here's the procedure:
First, go turn off the texture compression in CMP. Do this by:
1. In the Menu click on "Edit/Settings" and select the "Miscellaneous" tab.
2. Either uncheck the "Enable hardware accelerated texture comporession" box or make sure it is not checked.
3. Click "Save" on the "Settings dialog.
Next you have to work on the assets.
4. Find the offending asset(s) in CMP and click on it (highligh it).
5. Opposite click on the asset which will brings up a set of options.
6. Click on "Edit" and then "Open for Edit".
The key stroke short cut for "Open for Edit" is "Cntl+E".
7. After the asset is open for edit, opposite click again on the asset.
8. Click on "Edit" and then "Commit".
The key stroke short cut for "Commit" is "Cntl+M".
Note that you don't have to click on the asset again while commiting if you haven't clicked on another asset while your doing this procedure (which you shouldn't do as CMP is rather touchy while it's commiting assets).
Depending on the size of the asset, the commit step can take a while. I was recommiting some container assets yesterday and it would take up to a couple of minutes for the whole process. Learning the key strokes will speed up your process a lot.
Yes, it is kind of a pain for the whole process but very satisfying when the assets show up again. In my case, I hadn't seen the containers before and when they showed up I was very impressed. From black to stunningly real.
Have fun,
