I just spent $70 on TS 2022 Premium and I find it disappointing so far.

The new layout on the screen is quite awkward for me. This edition is not compatible with much of my older content especially some trains, locos and railcars from past editions. A lot of it lists as FAULTY or MISSING DEPENDENCIES and a there is a huge list of stuff in CM that is listed as "unknown asset" when routes/sessions are imported into it. Some stuff simply cannot be loaded into TS 2022 even from the DLS. I had a lot of trouble with the TS12-originating cloned Mojave Subdivision with the AI feature's malfunctioning left and right. Much of the same malfunctioning stuff continues when my modified Mojave Sub Division (originating from TS 12) t is brought into TS 2022 and is attempted to be driven. Even TS 2022 shuts down promptly as TANE had been doing whenever I tried to join two track ends together on certain track additions I made. It is difficult to save changes in TS 2022 on that modified Mojave Sub of mine. It won't save any additional train content placed on the tracks UNLESS I add something static like a tree or a house to the route first. If I add a railcar to the track in Surveyor while editing this ROUTE and then try to save it, it will only bring up a dialog box about saving the session and not saving the route. Train cars put on tracks cannot be saved unless I get a dialog box regarding saving the route.

It is my conclusion that importing pre-TANE routes that were packaged with pre-TANE editions of Trainz, I think they were known as the Jet-engine editions, is looking for a bunch of trouble. I have only been able to create from scratch an original route/session of my own in TS 2012 and import into TANE trouble-free. TANE SP4 hates the Mojave Sub Division that came from TS 2012 and TS 2022 Platinum loves it no better.

I bought TS 2022 mainly on account of the West of Denver route. Hopefully, I will be able to add my own trains (including a "flying helicopter" and drivable road trucks and buses) and additional scenery as I like on my cloned version of it and create my own AI sessions that run bug-free this time. I have not even checked yet to see if West of Denver is even clone-able and end-user editable.

I have been trying TS 2022 with the classic Surveyor and that is not so awkward for me. Playing around with TS 2022, I found out by turning off TurfFX and Clutter as well as putting Shader on Low setting, under the Performance tab, I could get rid of that ugly wonky condition of the terrain where parts of the ground look transparent like glass and JR Terrain track ballast otherwise looked all messy and broken up. If you import an older route into TS22, I suggest that Shader be put on the lowest setting or the ground will look totally weird.

Make sure you go to the Content Store and download everything that's available to you. There is a lot of content to install that wasn't included in the base download of 10GB because there's way more to download that wouldn't fit in the 10 GB download.

As far as routes go, unless you purchased them, they may not be available for you. I don't remember what's available in the base install, or what's available in other packages because I only use Plus as my daily Trainz version even though I have installed the Platinum edition for testing purposes except without anything else but the program and what few things I've installed in it for testing purposes.

Anyway, once everything is installed, right-click on your routes and choose download to pick up anything that may be missing from your data.

The alternative is to copy your existing T:ANE database and make that copy your new TRS22 PE database. This requires a database repair, downloads, updates, etc., to bring the data up-to-date.

The glassy-effect under tracks, etc., is PBR textures. I set my Shader performance to "Basic" (this used to be standard prior to SP4) to eliminate the jellyfish guts and swamp water under the track. In my opinion, PBR is great for new routes but for older routes, it doesn't work well unless you want to update the whole route with new textures. I tried that with lots of difficulty on my nearly 200-mile route and gave up part way through due to the size and scope of the project.

Turf-FX is a nice feature and makes placing grass a whole lot easier and renders better than the old carpet grass splines that hog memory and cause stutters. This takes some getting used to but is worth looking at in due course. Clutter-FX is for placing objects such as clusters of trees, stumps, flowers, etc. This too is a timesaver if you are using those objects.

Until you get used to it, you can still use Classic Surveyor. This is an option found under the Tools menu in Surveyor. Surveyor 2.0 is the new kid in town and has a whole slew of nice features but is still WIP and features are being added with each new update. I really like the Scrapbook. Placing trees, for example, is no different than painting textures after creating a scrapbook clipping. The other nice features include pasting objects at any angle, the ability to delete or add multiple baseboards, and in particular add baseboards at a specific height.

I did get West of Denver on the Platinum download and install.

Thanks, John, it might take me a while to get used to the whole new 2022 Trainz thing. Even graduating from TS 2012 to TANE was a bit cumbersome for me at first. I will try to keep it as simple as possible

The next thing I want to try is clone West of Denver and monkey with it from there.

Mr Jon,

Greetings and just wanted to say, as you did, I started in Trainz Driver II, 2014, graduated to TANE, and went to TRS19, now TRS19 Platinum, were as couple of months ago jumped to TRS22 PE (Platinum Edition) with, I think I might feel like I am jumping out of Airplane here?

So you definitely made a huge jump for sure.

One of my reasons for jumping to 22, was I got rid of my 6 yr old ROG with NVIDIA 1080 GTI, eclipsed to new NVIDIA 2040 RTX with 8 Gigs of RAM and can't believe the difference in rendering of Routes when I open them.

I'm no young Pup anymore almost mid 70's so it takes more patience than I have sometimes to learn (teach an old DOG new tricks?) Well for this old Dog, hoping that is possible.

After setting up 22, I decided I needed to add 19 in there too? Reason, I know 19 quite well, understand the nuances of lot of it. But this new kid, 22 is going to take some time.

My other reason, is I have and love several of my older Routes (NON PBR etc) and I have no intention, nor the lifetime it would take to bring them up to spec with this 22 Character.

I also outfitted my new Computer with two 4 Terabyte Samsung 990 PRO4.0NVNE M.2 SSD, so I have plenty of Room, who knows, 2 yrs from now I may have to add 8 Teras later. But for now, suffice to say, I have more room on my new Computer, than I have ever had in very long time.

My Plans for quite some time, I want to keep 19 installed, since every once in a while I find an older Route that peaks my interest and is not suited for 22. But will work most of the time in 19.

Additionally,, I have this issue with 22:

I do have an issue, that I don't understand as of yet? I had a Route that was missing tracks, whole layout. Usually with Bulk Asset and Replace. I could select Missing Spline Asset, add some replacement Track, hit enter, and it would do it fine. However in TRS22 PE (Platinum Edition) you see the completion finishes, but the Missing Spline does not get replaced?

Can anyone here have an idea why Bulk Asset and Replace doesn't function for the Track Assets.

Interesting enough, it does work for Trees, Flora Etc. No issues.

I just started editing my cloned version of West of Denver. I do like the improved 3D animated road vehicles (including trucks and buses) to replace the crappy old traffic Carz. There are some animated cab figures now and some look like they are dressed like a real train crewman. The gal with blonde hair looks out of place.

The track work on this route is crappy in some parts. Some curves are over-super-elevated. There is a nasty kink on one curve. There seems to be too abrupt change in gradient on some parts.

What I do miss is Quick Drive. I don't yet know how to change the time of day or weather (Environment) while driving. I will have to see if the HUD can still be added to a session. There seems to be no way to simply tell the driver to DRIVE if no schedule is set up for a train.

interesting, I've never driven the entire west of denver route, but I remember downloading sebino lake and found a track break, one would think that the route had been test driven since it was made by Jango, one of our best builders who has very high standards
Its possible its been modded by NV3 as I've come across a number of pretty poor builds in the DLC over the years. It is hard to completely remove all issues on long routes and bear in mind that trainz is perfectly capable of screwing up any installation, given a particular set of circumstances , which might only pertain to your own setup.

I am assuming that you are referring to Surveyor Classic.

I just tested it with:-
  • Trees - worked
  • Scenery Assets (e.g. buildings) - worked
  • Track Assets (e.g. speed signs) - worked
Interestingly the Surveyor 2.0 Bulk Replace Filtered Assets does not appear as an option in the Assets Palette filtered list in TRS22PE. Is it in Trainz Plus only?

I bought TPG a few days ago and finally got around to installing it tonight. The surveyor screen looks a bit daunting but I managed to place Tornado on the Settle & Carlisle route with a nice rake of maroon Mk 1's and it is a very beautiful piece of work. The S&C looks pretty good given its age and I have cloned it and will tidy it up as some the embankments have voids and bridge abutments are protruding through the track.

Just buy the standard edition and use imported and DLS assets. I love TRS22 and I only have 4 payware packs installed. West from Denver comes in the TRS22 base.

The problem with Standard Edition is that he won't use Surveyor 2.0.
