I DONT BELIEVE IT

and for workmen blaming there tools there are also thousands who have problems too just look at all the complaints on here there are a bucket load

I haven't seen thousands of complaints on here.

Certainly not many raving and carrying on like you.

Also it is "their" tools, not "there" tools.

IKB.

Interesting - I haven't had any issues running 2010 under a local user account in Win 7 x64. When I installed 2010 (using the same local user), it gave me a UAC popup, and I had to enter admin credentials. After that, the install proceeded correctly, and I haven't had any issues running the program. I don't 'run as administrator', and I did install Trainz to the default location (Program Files x86\Auran). I've put 2010 on one Vista box and 2 Win 7 boxes, all with the above results. I get a UAC popup whenever I patch (and often have to manually specify the location of the install for the patcher), but that's it.

Curtis

Was this on Home or Pro / Ultimate?

It Is odd and I'm not the first to come across this, wonder if it has anything to do with not setting up a user account to start with and just running an admin one, or if it's home, v pro or basic or even an upgrade versus full install problem?
A lot of the access level settings are only changeable in home by editing the registry. Networking with XP and Linux using Samba being one of the things home will not let you do without a registry edit.
I had no problems installing anything in default locations with the Win7 Beta including 2010, as the beta was Ultra I guess that may well have some bearing?

Back to Win7 x64 retail. Installing 2009 in Program Files, It was crashing and not saving, unless run as admin plus I got a lot of Side by Side errors in event viewer, that corresponded with the period that 2009 was running, irrespective of whether running as Admin or not. No idea what they are however as they were not present after moving 2009 to a separate drive and 2009 was then working perfectly, I didn't bother investigating further.

Hi Mac!

One box was pro, the other is enterprise. When I get a chance, I'll try a couple of fresh installs of various flavors to see if there's a difference....

how about being helpfull instdead of being a dick ,,,theres always one
Really?

You may have to wait a while for further assistance. IKB WAS being helpful, as a lot of knowledgeable people won't respond to poorly written requests for help, and I see their point; If you can't take the time to ask for help in an intelligent, thought out manner, why should they believe you can properly follow their instructions? (and spellcheck is a pretty rudimentary computer function)

You see, there's many ways of being a "dick". I personally think one BIG way, is to ask for help, then ignore the help offered and lash out at those trying to help you.

So good luck to ya...

how was ikb being helpful have you looked at his comments above ..people have been helpful but nothing has worked what people have told me so how on earth am i blaming my tools ,, i bought this game and expected like normal just to put in install and play ,,and its just been error after error im only telling you what has come up on the screen i have tried

reinstalling ..no good

video settings ..no good
folder directory..no good
putting patch file on desktop..no good
and im sure there are loads of things i have tried ..people have been very helpful on here and this forum is great ,,but nothing has worked that has been suggested ,,so next step for me is taking computer to shop as its still under guarantee ,,,cheers

If I understand correctly, the problem is affecting TS2010. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

If you are running Windows 7 or Vista, you will need to set Trainz to run as an administrator. The easiest way of doing this is if you have a shortcut on the Desktop. To check whether your icon on the Desktop is a shortcut or the actual program, simply right-click and click Properties. If it is a shortcut, the box that appears will have a Shortcut tab. If this is the case, click Compatibility (it will be a tab at the top), then click in the box marked 'Run this program as an administrator'.

I am aware of quite a few patching issues with TS2010 - the best way of patching it is to use the autopatcher (also, during patching, it's strongly advised to turn off your antivirus software - if you can post what your antivirus software is, someone will be able to advise on that)

To use the autopatcher (if you are not already using it):

1.On the launcher screen (the one with Start,Options etc on it) click Options.
2.Click the Planet Auran tab.
3.At the bottom there should be a Patch Trainz button. If there is, click it.
4.The patching process will now start - simply follow the instructions (just make sure you do not click Cancel, as that will require a re-install). Once it is done, click Close.

Way to go to get community respect bro, I think with that comment, I'd be surprised how many will help. I think the issue here is PEBCAK. Or is it PEBKAC?

Secondly, why don't you give us a lot more detail, what did you do? How did you do it? What was the output (more precisely?)

EDIT: Oh, what firewall software are you using?

the patch trainz tab is not highlighted so i cant click on it ,,cheers

im just wondering about the saving thing ,,because i have just managed to save something on the driver wich is nowhere near as big as york to london so what im thinking is when i click save on york to london is i might just have to wait a while as its such a big section

just done it again and this is the message when i click icon

the item trainz exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved so this shortcut will no longer work properly ,do you want to delete shortcut ..

and when i search for the files i get the game then drag it onto desktop only to get the same message ..whet the hell is going on ,i have never had this in all my years of computer gaming..cheers

Not to state the obvious but this will be the case. The shortcut on your desktop will point towards Trainz version xxxxx and after you update the game the version number will change to the latest version. The desktop shortcut is looking for the 'old' version of the game so states that hte game is missing. You need to delete your original shortcut and create a new one for the new build number. If you are having problems saving then it is likely that you are not running as an administrator.

This game is certainly not useless, it can be frustrating at times but at the same time rewarding. Stick with it and you will get it sorted. IKB was spot on with his observations

butchville, is it possible for you to check what Trainz build number you have? It should be in the bottom right corner on the Launcher.

Bingo. 'Not responding' doesn't necessarily mean 'I've crashed'.

Paul

You are right there Paul - I've found 'not responding' can also mean 'I'm doing an intensive task' - usually, saving in Driver/Surveyor is like that.

Think you have hit the nail on the head there, the larger the route the longer it takes to save, also the more editing you do in a surveyor session the longer it can sometimes take to save.

42203 is the build number thanks people sorry for being a pain but this game looks amazing and just want to go on it,, another stange thing i have noticed on driver ,,where are all the people on the platforms it tells you people are loading but there are noone about ,,on my ts2006 there are people getting on and off your train,,cheers

Just checked your build number, it appears there is a patch available for it that may resolve some issues, but may also create new ones so you can install it if you are prepared for any bugs.

To install it, make sure you have entered your CD key and Username/Password in the Trainz Options box (the Options button on the Launcher will get you there - it will be on the Planet Auran tab) - you should then be able to do the patch.

Shane,

I have the same build number as Butch and every time I try to run the auto-patch, this is the message I'm getting:

Checking for available disk space for patching.
Searching for patches...
Downloading patch file...
Unpacking patch file...
Failed to extract the patch archive.
Patching aborted.

The manual patches on the forum aren't working either. Am I missing something? Any help is appreciated.
