Try looking in your start menu? The only thing to do with Trainz that should be on your desktop is the shortcut, which you may well have accidentally deleted and can be replaced by right clicking on the Launcher file and clicking Send to > Desktop (shortcut).

That's the first time I've ever heard of any patching program deleting the whole program.
The game is not useless many of us have had no problems installing or patching it.
Not in the recycle bin is it? or maybe try a system restore?

after installing the patch the icon is there but when i click on it i get message saying something about exe ,, i can only tell you about whats happening ,,and for workmen blaming there tools there are also thousands who have problems too just look at all the complaints on here there are a bucket load

If it's on the computer at all, you should be able to do a: Start, Search, enter TS2010 where it says "All Files and Folders" and click on Search and if it's in the computer, it will tell you where.

just done it again and this is the message when i click icon

the item trainz exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved so this shortcut will no longer work properly ,do you want to delete shortcut ..

and when i search for the files i get the game then drag it onto desktop only to get the same message ..whet the hell is going on ,i have never had this in all my years of computer gaming..cheers

i also cant save anything at all in driver in surveyer in anything ,,it just freezes the game ,,it cant be this bad can it

Where in the computer did you find the files?
Did I understand you correctly? You said you dragged the TS2010 file to the desktop?

Hang on, I thought you said your installation had disappeared, now you're saying you can't save anything in Driver and the game is freezing ????

i have windows 7 ......what happens is when installed then i go to save anything at all it freezes the game ,,when i install the patch it deletes it of my harddrive but leave only the shortcut on so when i click on shortcut its usless doesent work and when i click on shortcut i get this message

the item trainz exe that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved so this shortcut will no longer work properly ,do you want to delete shortcut ..

and when i search for the files i get the game then drag it onto desktop...

So you just pulled the file out of the directory? No wonder your launch icon doesn't work. (we need a facepalm smiley)
Just about everything in this program requires patience. This is a simulator, not a game. The difference being most games are essentially a "rat's maze"; you progress down a pre-determined path with a given set of parameters. This simulator, on the other hand, has no such constraints. YOU determine what goes in and has to happen, thus the nature of the program is different. The end result is, the user has to perform tasks which are handled by the program in other "games".

My advice: Uninstall it with windows "add/remove programs", and do a fresh installation, following all the recommendations in this forum. Do a "installing 2010" search, and a "Updating 2010" search on this forum. Read everything you find regarding this, and you should be in good shape.

Most people who have games running on Windows 7 have customized it to disable the UAC or set it up so they always log in as administrator or whatever it is. My two cents, the whole purpose of the UAC was to save corporations money on full time computer techs, by stopping office workers from downloading or installing anything at all. That works fine in an office environment, they're supposed to be typing letters in Word Perfect and running spreadsheets so they don't need to install or modify anything, they're supposed to let the admins do that. It does not work well for gamers who are constantly installing, uninstalling, and modifying files unless they know how to get around all the blocks. So basically you need to learn how to manipulate your operating system, otherwise you'll have trouble with any game.

With XP I would merely open Windows Explorer, browse to C:\Auran\TS2010\bin and select launcher.exe, right click and copy. Move to an empty space on my desktop, right click, paste shortcut. That's all it takes to get a working shortcut in XP, I read that in the "Windows XP for Dummies" book. Windows 7 might be different, and probably will erase changes you make unless you set it up so it doesn't block your changes.

Works the same in Win7 or just right click send to > Desktop (shortcut)

UAC can be turned down to the bottom but one setting or bottom one and then you get no interference from it on either setting.

Installing anything in Program Files or Program Files x86 on Win7 is bad as write access is blocked so data can not be saved unless UAC is disabled or everything is run as Admin, better to install in a different location such as another drive or partition or just C:\Auran.

Simply logging on with administrator account doesn't cut it with Win7 unless you go on a registry editing spree.

Interesting - I haven't had any issues running 2010 under a local user account in Win 7 x64. When I installed 2010 (using the same local user), it gave me a UAC popup, and I had to enter admin credentials. After that, the install proceeded correctly, and I haven't had any issues running the program. I don't 'run as administrator', and I did install Trainz to the default location (Program Files x86\Auran). I've put 2010 on one Vista box and 2 Win 7 boxes, all with the above results. I get a UAC popup whenever I patch (and often have to manually specify the location of the install for the patcher), but that's it.
