I Absolutley Hate Speed Trees!

I don't think it's worth popcorn. I already accept the fact that I'm a fan boy, unscientific, and an apologist simply because I don't shoehorn 2004 content into 2010:hehe:

I can live with that…

No one was trying to shoehorn 2004 content into 2010.

I had downloaded "Wild Bill NORTH" to "mine" assets for my 1870's Trainzing while I had 2009. I moved all my 2009 content to 2010. FRAPS was running while I investigated the route in 2010. FPS was in the 40's.

I went to 2009 to see what the FPS was since the 40's didn't seem right for a very simple five board route. In 2009 the FPS was in the 100's and the only difference was the involuntary Speedtree replacement in 2010.

Being inquisitive I loaded the route into 12 and got in the 20's.

Then redid "Wild Bill North" with a non-replacement billboard and brought that into 2010. The FPS jumped to the 180's with the minimal Speedtrees left.

Just reporting observation
Harold

The problem with an pro-Speedtree versus anti-Speedtree thread is exactly the same problem as that with a Railworks versus Trainz thread: it is all just people's personal opinions. It is okay to express your opinion, but arguing with others over whose opinion is better is useless and a waste of time and words.

I personally LIKE Speedtrees, including the built-in ones. That is simply my personal opinion; it is 100% guaranteed that some others around here do not have the same opinion. I am not going to argue with those who do not like Speedtrees that my opinion is better.

To all those who do not like the Speedtree animatedwind effect, see this thread, which should be made a sticky, in my opinion. I have used this hack to turn off the Speedtree animation for performance reasons (any amount of extra performance that I can squeeze out of this rather low-end laptop is nice), and the Speedtrees are thus no longer animated in TS2010 over here. ;)

Popcorn, anyone?

Regards,

Retro.

I'm not sure that is quite accurate. When you have obvious performance hits by SpeedTrees that can be proven, as we did with the Wild Bill NORTH route,
that's not just opinion, that's fact. I don't argue about the appearance of SpeedTrees, except for the hurricane effects. And YES, I know those effects can be turned down, but what's the point of having SpeedTrees if they aren't moving? I have seen a LOT of stationary trees that look absolutely amazing.
I mean almost photorealistic. I have yet to see ANY SpeedTrees that look that good. Check the trees in this link:
http://www.polas.net/trees/index.php
Are they compatible with Trainz? I dunno. But they look a LOT better than any SpeedTrees.

The bottom line for me is I didn't buy TS12 to see pretty trees. This ISN'T Tree Simulator 2012. It's TRAIN SIMULATOR 2012. There are plenty of problems with Trainz that have been present since TRS2004 that STILL haven't been corrected. SpeedTrees should have been the LAST thing N3V was worried about when they decided to update 2010-2012.

Just a suggestion to those who are tired of reading the propaganda from fanboys and apologists and those swimming in De Nial of TS12 problems. Do like Sniper297 does. Add those people to your ignore list. And I hope they do the same thing to us so that we don't have to read their ******it.

Dep

It's funny you mention that, because I've thought along those lines as well. There was one RW spammer here a month or two back who really deserved it, but I figured I needed to be able to report his spams and websites. Then after reading your pointless rants last week in the TS12 forum, I started to more seriously think of putting the whiners and RW promoters in ignore, since they're not really looking to improve the sim. Mind you, the 3-4 crybabies I'd block are more people than I've blocked in well over 20 years of internet and BBS use.

But in all seriousness it's this type of attitude that is doing damage to the Trainz community. People have problems, they're told generally multiple times where the problem lies, yet they refuse to believe it in and continue to lash out at those who do not have a problem.

Now frankly I don't care if someone likes speedtreez or not, I don't care if someone has issues shoehorning legacy content into a newer version of Trainz, I just don't care.

But to continue to complain about it and then lash out at those (including Auran/N3V) who have told them where they're making a mistake or what could be causing their issues, it's just as nonproductive as making calls for everybody to put people on their ignore list.

I don't put anybody on my ignore list, because unlike some I don't want an edited point of view:hehe:

It seems to me that DEP only wants to be bothered with people who agree with him, I really wish I cared more about being liked than what the truth is, if I did I'd be sucking up like most of the speedtreez haters often do:hehe:

Again I ask how is taking a 2004 route and bringing it into 2010 supposedly a scientific test?

Have you ever given a moments thought of any of the non-native assets that route contains? Of course not you have your culprit, speedtreez. That's the path of least resistance and is always the path that speedtreez haters will always take.:hehe:

What place am I in? I know you mention several of us in the running for your idiot boy award. Just need to know how much more I need to apply myself.

Do we win a prize or something or is it just a bragging rights thing?

Dave........

By now, I have realised that my post was really just a piece of nonsense rubbish that I shall now delete, for it is really not something that fits the topic of this current discussion. Not the first time that I have been an idiot, mind you. :p

Anyway, this thread has gone off the deep end, in my opinion, so it is my opinion that the moderators should close it.

Why? Hits the topic pretty good. Some like Speedtree, some don't. Some just want the choice not to use them if we wish.

I hope you don't think I called you idiot boy. I was refering to my being in the running on a certain user's blog.

Dave......

Really? After posting it, I got the impression that this topic is about the performance of Speedtrees. But maybe it is actually a mixture of both that and what my post was aimed at: basic " 'Speedtrees are bad! No, Speedtrees are good!'..." arguing.

No, I was not thinking that anyone else had called me an idiot. I called myself an idiot. :p

Since you asked, since I don't want to stray too far off topic:hehe:

While you're really not as talented as the others mentioned, I merely included you so you wouldn't feel left out.

And yes it's just a bragging rights thing for you guys:hehe:

Frankly I think the title of the thread explains it all. And it's just more the same from the same, the only difference this time is they are claiming scientific proof by importing a 2004 route into 2010.

They didn't get any traction with any of their other arguments and are trying to claim some kind of bulletproof testing using flawed methods, IN MY OPINION.

I'm not claiming scientific proof. I just said I didn't like them and would like the ability to not be forced to use them if they want me to continue purchasing their product. Lumping me in with "they" so I don't feel left out again?

Dave......

My wife and I visited with out 2 1/2 year old grandson today.

I played Thomas the Engine with him during our visit. He really enjoys playing with Thomas and friends.

Not once during our play time did he (Ayden) bring up the topic of Speed Trees.

Perhaps we can all learn from him that just playing with trains is fun.

Regards to all,

You don't you can change them I don't see how this is enforced. Can't we just play the game its not like our computers are getting 5fps I get 30 to 40 in any route weather a lot of speedtrees or not its just how well you graphics card can handle it.

All of my routes were built in older versions using Trunda's trees. Got a good non Speetree replacement for them in TS12? Every see what billboard trees, which I prefer, look like in TS12?

Regards to all,

It goes to show you that some people can enjoy the program. :)

I think Trainzers are really Goldielox in disguise...

Trainz is too slow. Trainz is too fast. There are too many Speed Trees.
