How to get rid of CNJ coach name

I was wondering how to get rid of the coach names in the CNJ Blue Comet coach. What I did is since the content is locked, export to CDP, click import into 2004, then find the folder, cut it somewhere, edit the texture file of the coach then use 2010 CMP to import back into 2010. I wanted to recolor the coach and reletter it into a different railroad. I know, it might be piracy to do this, but I'm using the clone of the coach for my personal use only. The trick only works if you have 2004, and you can get CDP's to install into 2004. This is to get the files to extract for editing. Is it wrong to circumvent copy protection if you only use the edited version for your own use? I like the coach because it has a full rideable interior, and it looks just like a 1920's heavyweight coach with windows that open that a lot of tourist railroads use today. I just can't figure out how to remove the name on the sides of the coach. I tried removing the kuid in the coach config referring to the coach name file, that didn't work. Also, how do I edit an alpha file the part with the white letters on black, black out the letters but I can't access the alpha part just the file with the gold color. Images2TGA when opening the file shows two parts, the solid gold on the left and the white letters on black on the right.

I don't consider it piracy if it's for your own personal use. That's just my opinion of course.

Think the names aren't going away because they are scripted into replacement textures that are loaded dynamically with each coach. What if you replace the names with the background color in whatever KUID image actually carries the coach names?

Wrong on not, you're on to a work around, and it's too late to shut the door now.
I imagine the name on the side of the coach would be in the texture file, you would have to change that with a graphics modification program. If it's hard coded into the mesh, there should still be a corresponding color mapped to it in the texture file, you possibly could change that to match the side of the coach, and then it wouldn't be as obvious, but if the names are raised or otherwise shaped in the mesh you will still see the contour at certain angles.

Wow, Euphod, you have every version of Trainz! What is Ann. Ed.? Is it 12 in a new package? I'm suspecting that somehow it's still referring to the original asset, that is the CNJ coach name asset that generates the names on the sides of the coaches under the windows. There's no way to get rid of or delete the original asset, just disable it. Even disabling it doesn't work. There is an option to edit the script, and in there are references to the coach name but I have no idea what to do with all that gibberish. In Images2TGA I can't access the alpha file on the right with the words to paint black over it which might remove the words from the coach. If I click edit in Images2TGA nothing happens. If I open as a tga only the gold strip shows. There is an option in Trainz itself to change the name of the coach to one of the other pre built names, but not make your own name or make it blank.

Have you tried cloning the asset?

After it is "yours", you should be able to edit it. You might have to run Images2TGA to convert the texture to a real TGA, which you can edit in any photo-editing program such as Gimp.

You've got the right idea. I just think you're making your process too complicated, which is something I tend to do more often than not. You want a very complicated way of doing something? Ask me and I'll find it for you. :o

I did it. I used Images2TGA to open the texture file in the coach folder and deleted the alpha image, then used a different program to delete the gold from the image, resulting in black, thus resulting in nothing on the sides of the coach!
Here is a photo.

It is at Jim Thorpe, PA on my "mega route" of eastern PA and NJ railroads, including Norfolk Southern, Reading and Northern, and more. I just rode this train last Saturday it went from Jim Thorpe to White Haven and back, a 50 mile round trip. The regular runs are normally 16 mile trips and use the same route through the Lehigh Gorge.
