How to add sections to an existing layout

:confused:I am sure there must be a simple solution to this but I cannot figure out how to add sections to a layout. I got Trainz 12 for my 11 year old grandson and he has created several of his own routes but we are unable to determine how to extend these routes onto additional sections. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Open your route in Surveyor, and click the first ("Topography") icon in the row down the right hand side. Hover your mouse over the buttons until you see the tooltip "Add baseboard". Click this button and then click on the edge of the baseboard where you wish to extend it. If you R-click on the button you can choose between 10m and 5m grids. 5m takes more resources, but allows for more precise placement of objects.

Ken...I did as you requested but in "Topography" I was unable to find anything listed as tooltip. There were several items to click on such as height up, height down, object height A, radius, sensitivity, get height G, use height H, plateau, remove water, etc. - no tooltip that I could find. The program I have is Trainz Simulator 12. Still confused.

In surveyer you press "Topology" (the symbol in upper right corner but you seem to have found this already), then click on "Advanced" and then then extend the baseboard by clicking the 'extend' icon in the lower left corner of the Advanced tab. It looks like one rectangle inside another. Now click on the edge of the map where you would like to have an extension.

In TS12 it is not in the advanced tab. it's in the Topology tab where it says section, left hand icon, actually above where it says advanced, hover the mouse pointer over that icon and it says Add ground 'X'

Thanks Malc,

I had failed to read the original post properly and didn't even notice that this thread related to TS12 :o

gwenstyron,

Clam1952 (and me!) are right, except it is "topology" and not "topography". Left-hand button in "Section", click on the edge of the board you want to extend.

By the way, you should register your Trainz serial number with Planet Auran (button at the top of the forum pages, Serial Numbers in the left-hand list on the web page), otherwise you will not be able to download free assets from the Content Manager (insert user name and password in settings) or install future patches to keep you up to date.

Thanks to all for the help. Following Clam1952 and Ken's direction, I was able to successfully add sections to my grandson's existing layout. This will make both him and me very happy. In the future I am sure I will have more questions because we are just getting started with this program.

Well, the first port of call for any help is here on the forums, just about any problem you will meet has been encountered and solved before and the people here are generally pleased to help. We all started out new ourselves, and remember the help we received, and in many cases (me included) still do.

However, my point about registering your serial number is well taken and well meant - people are more inclined to help if they can see you have a legitimate copy of Trainz. It displays on the station stop graphic next to your user name when you post, and validates your status as a Trainzer. Also, of course, the thousands of free assets on the Download Station are only available to a registered user.

Anyway, welcome to the forums, and to Trainz - hope you have fun.

Ken....Apparently I am missing something. I already registered with Planet Auran and thought that I had already supplied them with the serial number. On July 9th I received an email from Auran verifying my username and password. Next step???

gwenstyron,

if you have registered your serial number on the Planet Auran site, there is one more step. When you click the desktop icon to start Trainz, you get the blue box with the buttons for Start, Options, Content etc. Click on Options, then the Planet Auran tab and enter your user name and password in the text boxes provided. They are case sensitive.

And, in the General tab, enter your Serial number in the box at the top, and click "Add"

This should do it, and you're good to go. Any problems, post again with a description and we'll get you up and running somehow.

Ken

Ken...Once again, thanks for the info. Apparently I did not enter the serial number. I have since done that and received a email verification from Auran.

gwenstyron,

so, is it all OK now? Hope so, but as I said, the forums are a great resource for problem solving, and if you're just starting out, Trainz (like most things in life) can be a bit of a learning curve in the beginning. Speaking for myself, it's well worth it for the fun I get.

Anyway, all the best and you know where we all are now, and there are some real experts here.

And TS12 is now showing on your station stops next to your user name.
