How many people use CAB mode?! Do you?

I always use Cab Mode. To me DCC is for wimps and quiche eaters - and we don't never employ thems on my PO&N.

If that sounds familiar, I stole it from Phil. :wave: I have a Raildriver console;

So I always drive in cab mode, I don't use any loco that won't work with Raildriver.

Those of you who belong to trainsim.com, they do have polls over there, so I started one.

"there is a physics rule? Hows it work?"

Each loco uses an engine spec file, the physics are in those files. Some are fairly realistic, some are not.

Alright so i use cab mode but im gonna sound stupid hear by asking there is a physics rule? Hows it work?

Its a builtin rule that you add to the session like any other. It adds better physics for wheelslip and that kinda stuff :).

I'm suprised how many people use Cab! Seems more than 1%, my faith is restored!

Me, i'm about 45/55 DCC. I like running CAB mode in Diesels, but TS2009 is quirky with CAB mode on steamers; for instance the "Big Steam" cab (ie the one in the Big Boy and the CNR 4-8-4) even with 1% throttle, they run flat out. if it has the PB15 cab, it usually works fine. Ben's cabs, forget it. If the auto fireman is on, he smothers the fire and i get little to no steam, if it's off, the i can make steam, but they don't "drift" very well and they tend to be sluggish. Maybe it's just my game or something, but i rarely get enjoyment out of running steam engines in CAB mode. Especially on railroads like the PO&N or Harbor Master with lots of ups and downs. I lose too much steam and make too little.

I prefer using CAB mode, it's more challenging and thanks to cascaderailroad's explanation of keyboard commands, I no longer crash into things...so far!

I'd say I use cab except when testing things or sometimes for steam. With diesel or electric, cab mode rocks. Steam, about 50/50.

true, very true. Prowler's steamers in TS2009 are insane...they start moving forward, slam into reverse, then slam into forward agian seconds later, only to repeat the process.

ugh...let me tell you a little story. Tonight i was *trying* to haul a cut of loaded iron ore jimmies out of the Port Ogden docks with a C&IM USRA 2-10-2 (cincysouthernrwy reskin of Ben's original) and literally ran myself out of steam. I only had seven pounds of steam left. and what's wore i couldn't get the durn thing to rebuild any of its steam pressure.

About 50/50 for me. If I'm testing my route, I'll use DCC mode so I can look around for things like floating roads, trees in the way, etc. When I'm driving, however, it's CAB mode with the physics on. That make the real challenge particularly on the mountainous sections of my route where there are some grades that need watching.

Cab mode. Definitely. And to say that only 1% chooses cab mode, is just plain stupid. I am pretty sure that among those who are interested enough to search around for extra content for Trainz, far more that 50% uses cab mode rather than DCC, and that seems to be confirmed in this thread.

Even though all my trains are AI controlled, I use CAB mode so I can see what they are doing (and to monitor the gauges etc)

About 70% DCC for me as I do a lot of own routes & easier to check for scenery etc. mistakes without having to worry about steam pressure, water level etc. Still struggle with CAB mode a little depending on layout of controls in cab. Yes I know you can use HUD to help with them but not all controls eg injectors. Maybe if RailDriver was a little less expensive and I had more time then more CAB versus DCC.

I've used nothing but cab mode since the advent of decent steam physics with TC3.

I also write e-specs some for the DLS and for a couple of payware creators. It may not be as low as 1%, but those who do use cab mode are very definitely a very small minority from the feedback I've had.

Bear in mind that people posting here only represent a percentage of Trainz owners, and the more dedicated ones at that.

Regards,

Anthony

My interest mainly lies in building AI controlled layouts which will run successfully with no hands-on interference from me!
Consequently I have never ever tried cab control!

Cab mode for driving 100% though if I'm taking a scenic tour and letting the AI drive then that's DCC mode. In fact I would like to see more enhancements to "Cab" mode such as simulation of different types of braking systems, e.g. stepped, westcode etc. as very few modern traction units use lapped braking any more.

I use cab mode quite often except when I am developing an AI session that will run unaided. I find that if you click on cab mode the AI trains do not perform the same as they do in DCC mode. One glaring example is driving on to a turntable then moving it to another stop. You can get the trackmark radius all set up so it works perfectly in DCC and the loco will derail every time if you run it in cab mode. The brakes just do not stop it at the right spot even though it is controlled by the AI.

Cheers,
Bill69

I use DCC mode most of the time, but I am ordering the Raildriver Desktop Controller, so I'll be switching to CAB mode.

BTW, I think some posters here are confusing CAB Mode (using the controls with the mouse) with SITTING in the cab to drive trains. Perhaps they don't get it that there are two methods to control the trains, "Cab" mode and "DCC" mode?

One other thing... what's the real difference between the two modes??? You can still control the engine with the Keyboard. Trying to use the Mouse to control the throttle, brakes, etc. is a real pain in the a** sometimes, at least in my experience.

Oh well.... to each his or her own.
