How many people use CAB mode?! Do you?

Davie_UCF

Here since 2001, Trainz!!
After Paul said in a thread regarding his content that only 1% of people use CAB mode i've wondered if this is true.

I really fail to believe its 1%. No way! I use CAB mode with the physics rule always, i've not touched DCC in a few years.

I did use DCC when I started trainz in ole 1.3 and eventually got used to CAB mode..
I now find it quite easy, especially with diesels. It adds a whole new element plus more immersion and with the vehicle physics rule, sometimes quite a challenge.

I wish their were a way to do polls on the forum, as i'm very interested in how many people do use CAB mode.

What are your views and what do you use?

Happy Christmas/holidays also! :D

I wondered how polls are done too.

Anyway, I never run in DCC mode. I only use diesels and electrics so I suppose it simplifies matters somewhat but regardless, I like the realism of CAB mode.

I'm probably at about 50/50. I use Cab mode about half of the time, but when I just want to sit and watch the scenery, I'll use DCC. It just depends on the mood that I'm in.

99.9% DCC.

I am interested in the minutae of locomotive systems, I even have a reproduction steam loco engineering book, some railroad rule-books and an official operators manual for a newer EMD diesel.

Nonetheless - a mouse and a PC keyboard don't exactly scream loco to me, so encumbering myself with simulated physics and operational constraints doesn't yet add anything to the experience.

I get most of mt Trainz satisfaction from a combination of running routes and planning/executing switching manoevres. For the latter, I have to be both engineer and yard crew, so there's enough to do without un-simplifying the control.

My CDN$0.02.

Hmm, 100% CAB mode over here. Locomotives that don't work this way, how nice some of them are modelled, won't show up on the roster over here. :hehe:

Greetings from snowcovered Amsterdam,

100% Cabmode here too. Diesels, Electrics, Turbines and Steam

I don't know how you can add polls here, but I think it is an option you must select when you start the thread.

At TrainZItalia, we made a poll on this issue last year, and the results indicate a far higher number of Cab Users (approx. 25%).

I only regret that I had to make my own enginespecs to replace some old default enginespec are somewhat "unreal": to name one, the default GP38 enginespec can develop a maximum TE equal to 996 kN (223,909 lbs): this would imply a 80% adhesion factor  . The data I found is 61,000 lbs (271 kN) at start and 54,700 lbs (243 kN) at 11 mph.

0% cab mode here. I do all my railroading using AI trains running on routes set within portals. Do lots of cab riding, but no cab mode driving.

100% cab

I always use Cab Mode. To me DCC is for wimps and quiche eaters - and we don't never employ thems on my PO&N.

I mainly create routes, and content so when I drive it is to take a look at things (I do drive for the fun of it at times) and so it's DCC for me.

That and I don't understand how to drive in cab mode...

My main interest is creating routes and developing scenic views in them (I am a great fan of the routes created by Darkdan). Therefore I always use DCC and AI to travel these routes for their scenic interest. I mainly use steam and the involvement with these cab controls prevents me from viewing the scenery at its best.

Steam using cab mode.
Diesel is for tractors, electric for operating points.
Now would that Big Boy pass an emmisions test? :)

Enter the line: -freeintcam in your trainzoptions file. Or change the trainzoptions file -cabinfov or -driverfov to =45 or =65

Roam about the cab (and outside of the cab) and adjust the seat height, and distance, changing the point of view.

I really wish the engineers seat was not invented in Trainz ... it just gets in the way ... I wish that the seat could be removed totaly ... is this possible ?

Alright so i use cab mode but im gonna sound stupid hear by asking there is a physics rule? Hows it work?

I use DCC mode for 70% of the time. I only use Cab mode for a challenge, or to drive steam locos because I can now make steam! Even going up my favourite route, Lickey Incline, backwards with no carriages.

I used to use DCC, but then picked up a Raildirver and never when back to DCC. Thats a whole lot of fun with a big coal drag coming down a hill and I can play with the brake levers to keep it in check.
