How can you prevent that assets become built-in?

Hello,

After installing some assets by Eldwane in Trainz2010, I noticed that some of his assets were built-in. Lately, I had some issues with Trainz2010. When starting a route, the scenery was popping up rather slow. I had the same effect when opening my route which is still in its rudimentary building state.

So I decided, to install a fresh copy of my Trainz versions 2009,2010 and 2012 on my external HD.

When checking those fresh copies, I had some assets from Eldwane within my Trainz2010 version, no assets of Eldwane where in TS12.

I checked if some assets by Eldwane in Trainz2010 were built-in. This was not the case.

Now, is it possible that assets get built-in when installing?

By this thread, I'm not saying that Eldwane's assets were the problem of the scenery not popping up fast in Trainz2010 and 12.

Scenery not showing up fast, was also a problem I had with my Trainz2009 version and I have never found the real reason of it. I did create a helpdeskticket, but no solution could be found.

With the fresh copies of my trainz versions, I want to see how an asset reacts before using it in my building Trainz-version ( Trainz2010 and TS12 ).

Am I correct, saying that assets can be built-in automatically just by installing new assets? If yes, is it possible to prevent it?

Best regards

Hi there' its impossible for any item you download and install to become built in to the JA files.
Items you download are installed
into the database but that is how trainz works and nothing you can do about this

As said assets cannot become built-in.

If they start loading slowy, check your hard drive for problems. A good thing to do is a defrag. This makes a world of difference when in Driver.

Not True. After installing Sirgibby's Murchison 2, all 900+ scenery assets become listed as builtin. Also, after purchasing and installing the Blue Comet, it is listed as builtin.

Correct - files in .JA files are automatically built-in, and there's nothing you can do about it (apart from not installing addon packs).

Hello Bob, John, Shane, NSWGR_46class,

Thank you for your information.

If assets are built-in, can they be overwritten just by installing a package ( a cdp.file with multiple assets included )?

Best regards

Hello Shane,

Ok thanks.

I have an asset in trainz2010 from Eldwane which has no errors and warnings in a fresh installation copy of Trainz2010.

I opened a copy of Trainz2010 which I used to use and there I noticed the same asset which was overwritten but now has errors and warnings in it.

I installed a package with assets ( cdp-file ) coming directly from Eldwane's website.

I'm just looking for a way to start with a fresh copy of Trainz2010/12 and where I can install my route without having all those errors and warnings.

Best regards

That can happen with built-in assets, as errors in such assets are hidden unless overwritten or opened for edit and recommitted.

Hello Shane,

So,is it correct to assume that it is always possible that a built-in asset is the cause of problems, simple due to the fact that errors are hidden?

Hello Shane,

Then I have no other option than to check every asset I download and see what happens in my building copy of Trainz.

My building is on hold now, simply because my building route is Belgian related and due to the fact that most of the Belgian assets are Trainz2006 related. There a still a few asset builder around.

Therefore I still haven't decided yet whether to continue my route in Trainz2010 ( but in a fresh copy ) or to start in TS12.

I have even started to take my first steps with Google Sketchup and Gmax. However my drawing skills are a bit limited even with a computer program.

Best regards

Your best bet is to use the Skip All option when it asks whether you want to overwrite built-in content and tick the box on that screen at the same time.

Hello Shane,

Ok - I have taken note of the skip all tip. Congratulations with your 10,000 posts
