Highlad Valley in TRS2010EE

@ Mike: Shush, just because I'm not up on the "fancy technology" you kids have now-a-days... haha. You'll have to demonstrate on AIM for me later.

@ Fred: I don't really have an estimated release date yet, the route still needs work. I hide alot of my boo-boos in the screenshots very well, haha.

Maybe tomorrow...just replaced 20 ties on the real valley railroad and a ton a brush work clearing the line all the way to within 3 miles of Middletown. Just got home about 14 hours later.(Where P&W takes over the line) Gonna be replacing a ton more the week after Xmas...err I mean the "holiday":hehe:

20th Century Diversion (Part 2)

It's late morning and the New York Central EMD's are parked on one of Greenwood Yard's storage tracks. These units are scheduled to run a diverted 20th Century Limited to Croton via a runaround at Lumby and a trip down the Fox Brook Branch. The problem? The set of EMD's shut down overnight and minor mechanical work has failed to get them ready for their vital duty.

tbob_20111219_0000.png

With time running out, a quick phone call was made to Harmon's shop for another set of locomotives to be sent up and meet the train in Lumby. In the meantime, the yard switcher collects the dead set of engines and brings them across the yard to the diesel shops.

tbob_20111219_0003.png

The ALCo parks the locomotive in front of the yard shack and runs around the F-Units, so it may shove them into the shops.

tbob_20111220_0006.png

tbob_20111220_0007.png

The ALCo uncouples from the F-Units and pauses, while the engineer gets out to have a word with the shop switcher's hogger.

hmm, i didn't know the NH had 2-10-4s and Cab forwards...steamlocomotive.com must be lying to me again:hehe: :o

20th Century Diversion (Part 2) Ctd...

With the EMD's enterring the shop, the steam-hauled 20th Century enters electrified territory and the yard limits. Here we see it passing under the Afton Branch with a set of commuter railcars outbound to Highland.

tbob_20111220_0009.png

The Limited slows for it's station stop, passing the coach yard with the bypass flyover in the foreground.

tbob_20111220_0010.png

With the F-Units in the shop, the 20th rolls by with the match that was never meant to be.

tbob_20111220_0011.png

The 20th crawls into Greenwood Union, past the fire department.

tbob_20111220_0012.png

Comming to a stop, the train rests alongside a Connecticut-bound Highland Roamer, which is delayed so the 20th may pass through the Highland Division as fast as a possible.

tbob_20111220_0014.png

The J3 prepares to be uncoupled and will make it's move to the roundhouse.

20th Century Diversion (Part 2) Ctd...

With the "baggage" left behind, the J3 makes it's way through the yard to the tower, where it will reverse, then change direction once more on it's way to the roundhouse.

tbob_20111220_0016.png

tbob_20111220_0018.png

A GP9 and an RS11 look on from the roundhouse as the steamer makes it's move.

tbob_20111220_0017.png

The J3 enters the approach to the roundhouse and rolls through the steam locomotive facility. The express/baggage service 0-6-0 switcher is dwarfed by the Cabforward under the tower. Purchased from the Southern Pacific for trials specifically in the tunnel heavy region of Highland, the Cabforward sees exclusive service to D&H territory to the northwest and B&M territory to the northeast, hauling mostly heavy coal trains.

tbob_20111220_0019.png

Balanced on the turntable, the steamer awaits to be spun around, while a group of diesels observe, similiar to a pack of wolves watching aging prey.

tbob_20111220_0020.png

With the operations office on a tight schedule, they push a pair of FL9's that have just come off duty, back into duty.

tbob_20111220_0022.png

The dual-mode's run off the dock spur and stop at the yard shack for orders, before quickly going on their way.

tbob_20111220_0023.png

tbob_20111220_0024.png

With time being of the essence, the FL9's couple onto the train, bypassing the procedure of reversing the train. Due to there being no wye between Greenwood and Lumby, the train will run observation car-forward after the engine change in Lumby.

tbob_20111220_0025.png

Stay tuned next time for the conclusion!

@ Sawyer: I have a soft spot in my heart for Cabforwards, so when I bought them from Paul I wanted to have them lettered for a railroad I actually model, haha.

And, because I lost track of all the pictures, I forgot to add one...

The busy RS1 passes by an empty coal train, awaiting clearance to the mine in Afton.

tbob_20111220_0005.png

eh, no problem. I've got lilb's cab forward that i somehow manage to run on a granger railroad...and my Katy 2-8-0 is actually a New Haven F-5:hehe:

you know, you're actually not as far off as you think. when baldwin delivered them to the SP, they ran cross country, hauling general merchandise freight all the way. maybe one got lost along the way and ended up in highland:wave:

It occurs to me that when you are finished it could become an excellent MP map. Just a thought.:)

Thank you sirs! Ed, I most likely will not release the route with MP capabilities, simply because I haven't used them and do not understand how theywork. If you'd like, you may modify it once it's released and spit a MP Highland out to the community, I wouldn't be offended, haha. After the New Haven Themed route is released, I will begin work on the 80's period of decay, featuring Conrail, early Amtrak, and early MTA.

20th Century Diversion (Part 3)

Here's the final part guys, with lots of screens!

With time running out, the FL9's Hancock blasts sharply twice, and the hogger begins to take the EMD through it's notches, departing Greenwood Union, and leaving the Highland Roamer behind.

tbob_20111221_0000.png

The train passes the tower and the roundhouse, where the Limited's original locomotive is in the process of being turned and serviced for being transported on the next northbound New York Central service.

tbob_20111221_0001.png

With the Hancock tooting the usual sequence for grade crossings, the dual mode locomotives approach yard limits and pass Greenwood's dead line.

tbob_20111221_0002.png

tbob_20111221_0003.png

The train hits the bridge over the Highland Reservoir's outlet into Greenwood Lake. The bridge marks Greenwood's yard limits on the south side, and provides an excellent view of the Reservoir's massive waterfall.

tbob_20111221_0004.png

tbob_20111221_0006.png

Here we see the Limited's unique observation car passing the tower as the FL9's hit yard limits.

tbob_20111221_0005.png

Passing an empty Greenwood Lake station, the train rounds the curve and takes a dive into Reservoir Tunnel.

20th Century Diversion (Part 3) Ctd...

Emerging from Reservoir Tunnel, the train crosses over Fox Brook Junction, and passes a T-Motor on commuter service which is waiting for the priority train to arrive in Lumby before proceeding.

On the stretch to Lumby we pass an abandoned farm and Lumby Swamp.

tbob_20111221_0011.png

tbob_20111221_0012.png

Once again the engineer gives the two longs, a short, and a long, with the distinctive Hancock, as the train enters town and takes Lumby track one.

tbob_20111221_0013.png

One town, two bulldogs...

tbob_20111221_0014.png

With the town's streetcar waiting for clearance to cross the mainline, the train slows for it's stop, sharing the station with two different sets of New York Central EMU's.

An EP3 watches as the train runs through Lumby.

tbob_20111221_0022.png

With the train parked, the pair of FL9's leave the Limited behind and make their move into Lumby's engine facilities.

tbob_20111221_0024.png

.

Having just arrived from Harmon within the hour, the relief E-Units wait for the FL9's to park on their track at the engine house, so the larger EMD's may take their place on the Limited.

tbob_20111222_0001.png

The dual-modes take their place at the engine house, joining a passenger electric and Lumby's resident ALCo switcher.

Ready for action, the E-Units leave their spot on the inspection track and pass parked New Haven EMU's and the Lumby Yard Office building on their way to their train.

tbob_20111222_0007.png

tbob_20111222_0008.png

Passing a set of their own EMU's laying over, the New York Central E's pass through Lumby track four and head for the cross over on the mainline.

tbob_20111222_0009.png

The locomotives cross to track one and reverse to their train.

tbob_20111222_0010.png

Coupled to the observation car, the E-Units depart shortly after, and make their way to Harmon via Fox Brook.

tbob_20111222_0011.png

tbob_20111222_0012.png

On their journey, the train meets the aforementioned T-Motor, waiting once again for clearance to Lumby.

tbob_20111222_0013.png

With the imported English EMU's humming quietly along in the background, the diverted 20th Century Limited passes through the junction and enters NYC trackage once again, on it's final leg to the Big Apple.

tbob_20111222_0014-1.png

Stay tuned next time, as we join the crew of the Highland Local, a freight job that serves the towns along the Afton Branch.

man, that's amazing.

I gotta ask because it's bothering me: where'd that T-motor come from? It's not so much that i want it as I've never seen it before...and due to my inherent nosy nature, the fact I don't know what it is or where it came from is driving me mad.

@ Ice: Danke schoen!

@ Sawyer: Somehow I was lucky enough (for a change) to be a Pro Trainz Gold Member about a year before he closed shop. http://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthread.php?t=14454

That was back when I was redoing in Highland in 06... the 2010 version is actually my most recent attempt out of like 3 previous attempts.
