Hello Everyone,
I just downloaded Blender and have not the first idea how to use this thing!
I need some 1 on 1 help with it because I want to start contributing to the community.
I'll need someone who can make screenshots with arrows and instructions so that I can get started.
Anything like a tutorial.
I plan to begin by making a GP11 or 10.

i don't know anything about blender but i suggest searching for tutorials on youtube. I also suggest a small switcher or piece of rolling stock for your first piece of rolling stock.

The secret is to take small steps that you can handle first.

Try http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Trainz/Tutorial_for_Blender under texture there is a tutorial on how to texture.

Have a look through and do the video tutorials mentioned in the wikibook. Then move onto Paul Hobb's Blender tutorials. The thing to remember about Blender is you only need about 5% of it and most books and tutorials that are not specifically Trainz oriented will concentrate on the 95% you don't need.

If you are building a loco try just making a block and putting the attachment and other points in first, then use some one else's bogeys underneath. Export it into Trainz. Once its working then go back and in Paul Hobb's words carve off the bits you don't need.

Just downloaded blender a few days ago too. Downloaded 3 PDF guides from wiki and saved few video links as well. Hope at least to try and make a few trees or buildings if I can get good enough to do so. At this stage can't say if anything will be made or not. IMHO starting with a loco or any piece of rolling stock is asking for trouble.
Cheers

i migrated from sketchup to blender to refine my models for TS2009 (mainly textures/normal mapping...).

Do the basic interface tutorials from the Blender-Homepage first. After you understand how blender is working everything else comes with practice.

Oh, and as others said, DONT do a loco first. Try a building, something simple. Get everything right (you will hit a wall exporting it to TS2009 anyway when you get your hands to config.txt and all the options like LOD...).

After you have your first house (or just a dice for the matter) in TS09 and its looking like you want it to, you are rdy.

It took me around a week to get it right (incl. modeling/texturing a shed), so be patient.
