Hi all, I'm basically new to the Trainz experience (I have 2010 but rarely fired it up) having been simming a lot in RW2-3. Now that I've taken some time to get into trainz 10 and 12 I'm really having a great time. Even though I'm stuck with the Steamised version (retro build 47103) of 12, and now know better for next version which I'll get from Auran instead, I'm enjoying the Trainz approach to rail simming. I'll close by sincerely thanking all the asset, route, session etc builders out there- your work just enhances the sim, and my experience, so much!

Kind regards,
Dave

Welcome to the all consuming world of trainz.
Pity you got the steamy version but at least your not griping like most do, a boxed set is the way to go.

Thanks for the kind words :) Managed to pop onto the ingame chat and enjoyed that a lot, so hope to be a regular there. @Fran- thanks, getting the steamised version was my fault so no reason to gripe hehe, besides I'm enjoying it notwithstanding.

I'm now looking for some solid routes that will work with my version, and finding some of the 2010 routes/sessions I couldn't use with my 2010 version (also steamised...<facepalm>) work well with 12. Can anyone recommend a activity laden Australian route? I've loaded up UMR Summer Mega and really like it, and Harbor Master. Cheers!

Kind regards,
Dave

Another welcome to Trainz. Once you get the next version from N3V, you'll really get into the swing of the Trainz way. Speaking of which, what is it about the Trainz approach that you enjoy so much? Not to start another debate about the relative merits of the different sims, just curious how a new comer from the RW side sees things.

One of the things I like so much is the ease with which I can build and add new objects to my installation. That and the easy to use Surveyor that makes building a route so simple. Can really scratch that creative itch.

Welcome Dave to the very addicting and time consuming world we live in here. ;)

You'll have a lot of enjoyment running created routes and once you get into Surveyor, you'll never leave even to breath fresh air once in awhile. :D

Hi Martin, thanks for the reply. Totally agree about the debate thing; certainly something to be avoided and I can enjoy what both sims bring to the table. What I like about Aurans approach is the whole picture feel I get when I'm in a session...I feel like I'm involved in the rail ops rather than only being a driver (which is enjoyable too). I've had a shufti in the Surveyor and it looks very straightforward, yet quite detailed, so I can imagine doing quite a bit of different things with it. I also really like the idea of a centralised forum (I'm not into face-book/twitter) and the community comes across as a gathering of helpful hobbyists/enthusiasts. Those are some of the reasons I'm enjoying the Trainz approach :)

@Danny- Thanks, I will check my pms. I'm sure my wife will drag me up for air once in awhile :)

Thanks John -- I hear you on the addiction. Just finished some time on the Norfolk-Western route in Trainz12. I love steam era and so finding the two sessions with steam era locos was a wonderful discovery...I'm all in.
