What happens to all the poor Europeans that don't fully know/understand English? They'll be wondering why they've suddenly been left in the dark indefinitely with older Trainz copies, unable to do anything...![]()
They generally don't purchase from us directly, so most items on the list are probably irrelevant to them. Hopefully the relevant publishers will translate and pass on the information about the DLS in the not-too-distant future.
chris
They've still possibly purchased 04 & 06. Nonetheless, they're screwed and don't know it for the most part.
You seem to be of the impression that the game will stop working immediately upon becoming unsupported. With the exception of a few key features such as direct DLS access, this is not the case.
chris
Uh, Nooooo.
In any discussion of the DLS, it almost inevitably comes down to "there's a lot of content, but much of it is faulty." We plan to change that.
Because Jankvis isn't representative of 99.9% of the stuff on the DLS. He made sure that his assets are 'correct'.
While we love professional quality content, the main thing we are asking for is content that is built to somewhat recent standards. An amateur content creator who started in TS2009 would be building to that level, unless they were taught by someone who only uses the older standards.
Building content for TS2009/TS2010 is actually easier than building for the older versions of Trainz. Yes, there are a lot more options open, and if you try to exercise all of those options you will have a lot to learn. As with anything, start simple.
kind regards,
chris
I'm not trying to be hard on Chris. I appreciate his being here also and giving us his views, but I assume that he's responding to us because he's interested in our views. Like I said before, I give him credit for answering us. Since I've bought quite a few products in the past few years, I think that qualifies me as a customer and as a customer, I should be able to express my views as long as they're civil. After all, this is really the only complaint department that we have.
Mike
The problem I see is that Auran is not a content creation company. Every version of Trainz I have, including 09, is packed full of third party content all the way down to 04. Where did that come from?
Since you don't create content does that make Auran an 04 user's customer? Pretty bad dig my friend considering Auran has profited quite well using freely uploaded content they didn't create.
Who is subsidizing who here and who is enjoying the ride? Are 04 creators your creators? Since every version of Trainz I own up until 09 is full of their content I would say yes. Pretty bold statement from a company relying so heavily on customers not only for sales but the purchase of what you use for free.
Dave.....
Alberte, what NikkiA meant (in a confusing way) was that Jankvis is one of the exceptions rather than the rule.
Cheers David
Nonetheless, this unsupported Trainz version news I think was issued last year or before that, so, we cannot say that we didn't know about it.
Now that's is really a cheap shot at any one who has legitimate criticism of the current product.Luddites, don't you just love their vision of the future.
I have to agree that it is a cheap shot against Vern. Now that's is really a cheap shot at any one who has legitimate criticism of the current product.
Wouldn't that make everyone here a Luddite?![]()
Just trying to inject some humor.
Certainly the first indication it would extend to a denial of service as regards the DLS for those only owning the older version - even with a FCT. Presumably Auran will be doing a pro-rata refund to anyone in that position. As I said in my long post, I can understand the closure of *technical* support for the older versions and let's face it most of that has been via the forums anyway.
I'm now in the process of reverting my TRS2006 and TS2010 installs to the default state and if I ever do get round to building for it again the content won't be going near the DLS.
Q: Can I still access the Download Station after the end-of-support date?
A: Access granted to you by the unsupported product may be terminated. If you have purchased access through other means (newer products, First Class Ticket, etc.) then your access will continue thanks to these products.
