Has N3V removed the restriction on signature image size?

Lately I've seen more and more super-sized signature images. I mean some that more than exceed the once official 800 x 100 pixels. It is truly annoying trying to find the actual text in the message because the signature image is so large. The problem with large signature images is for people with mobile devices as they will have a difficulties downloading the extra data over their connections, let alone see the actual forum post, with these extra large images.

So has N3V canceled item 18 no. 2?

Posting of images, signature banners and avatars are subject to the Appropriate Content Guidelines and the following conditions:
  1. Screen shots posted to the Trainz Community Discussion Forums should be in .jpg format and should not exceed a reasonable pixel size and file size. Any screen shots that are considered excessively large by the moderation team will be modified to links or removed from the post altogether. It is recommended that heavy images are posted to the screenshots forum.
  2. Signature banners may not cover an area greater than 800 pixels in width, 100 pixels in height and may not have a total file size greater than 30kb.
  3. Forum avatars submitted for inclusion to the selection pool must not exceed 204 pixels in width, 30 pixels in height and may not have a total file size greater than 3kb.

If this is not the case then this should be enforced as it was before.

Perhaps we should report the oversize signatures or maybe when we see one, post in the thread quoting the CoC.

I don't remember seeing any moderator activity recently which may relate to the problem.

I've reported a certain someone with a screenshot-size sig 3 times over the past 2 weeks. Just gotta close one eye for now, I guess.

There's never been any physical restriction to having a signature that is too big, just some wording in the CoC. From what I know the most that most moderators do is give the offender some infraction points for it, and if that offender doesn't go looking for the points they aren't going to know they got them. N3V Mods need to be more proactive in enforcing this rule.

You sure should. However, I have been reporting oversized signatures pretty actively for the last year or so, and I don't see any moderators (or admins) respond to it at all. There are a few active members of the community that I have reported well over 20 times over the last 6 months yet the moderators do nothing about it. Or moderators have been on vacation the last 6 months, but I somehow doubt that.

Main reason for wanting the rule to be more strictly applied, as also mentioned by JCitron: They are really annoying when visiting the forum from a mobile device. It not the amount of data, but the time it takes to download and the negative effect it has on readability.

Well, this happened 8 years ago:

My sig was 804x100.
My error, but still petty, over-zealous, and very, very funny! :D (Still makes me laugh).
And all around me were over-sized banners, some double and triple the limit. ?????

But, yeah, not a lot of moderating going on.
Certainly not in the few months I've been back.

Time for new mods, or a change in the CoC?
Maybe a combination of both.

Brian.

On the forum I run, AMTZ, when someone's banner is too large an Admin goes in & changes their signature to this image:
Violation.png~original

it usually gets the point across pretty quick.

Now, i've been told be a certain someone (cvwiki) that i shouldn't call people out for this violation. Apparently, his philosophy is that we should just let people break the rules.

I wouldn't call them out publically. But report them to the moderators. Hit the little triangle button with the exclamation point on a post of their's.
