Good routes

I'm sure there have been threads like this before, but anyways.

What routes would you recommend? US, UK, Europe, whatever.
There are lots on the DLS, so it's kind of hard to choose. I don't have a FCT right now so i can't really download everything.
I think it'd be good to have a thread where people can easily find out about good routes.

I'd like something with interactive industries and preferably sessions.

I would suggest that you do get a First Class Ticket. While there are a few routes with minimal downloads from the Download Station, most routes do, and in some cases the download can be quite large.

You should also possibly favor routes where all the dependencies are on the Download Station.

Question - a long route or a short route?

If you want to have fun shuffling freight cars around, you might consider
YardSwitchingCo or PortSwitchingCo. Both have numerous sessions. See, for example, here:

For longer routes, try UrbanIndustRail ot Austral Bay.

You will also find that once you have one of these routes you will have most of the assets for the others.

And anything by TPR should also be considered.

McCall_Yard is as good as they come, but from the number of downloads it seems to be largely unappreciated.

Welcome Elukka.

Firstly.... a +1 endorsement to anything by TPR and Philskene.

Route specific recommendations that are on the DLS, are interactive and features some mileage for operating potential:

East Kentucky v2.1 - by "Dermmy." Perfect example of less is more where pictorial representation is excellent without clutter.....therefore performance and frame rates are good.

Clinch TRS II - by "Momentum" an industry active update from the all time classic by "jkeenan". This is a representation of the Clinchfield RR, with a prototypical version due for release soon from the TPR site.

Both of these would keep the newbie occupied for considerable time and run extremely well on a middle-of-the-range PC.


For pictorial splendour and detail, anything by "gfisher" is hard to top. You will however need a damn good PC to run his routes. Also be prepared to do a little hunting on third party websites if you want all of the assets and dependencies for the routes.

- note US Trainz + Trainz Locomotive Works have merged to from US Locomotive Works, but the two sites exist at the time of writing.

Have you tried the Razorback Railway? Plenty of variety, plenty of industries, no sessions but numerous scripted activities instead.
