G'day All,
Gosh, my goodness! A fellow is absent from one of his favourite forums for a while (due to work commitments) and he returns to something of a furore...
...calm down guys...
"iceman" is entitled to his opinion (as is everyone else, for that matter) but more importantly, in this case, at least, is the fact that he is quite correct in his assessment (although I have NEVER professed to be any kind of "...brick expert..."). After I had made the images I have posted above, I became aware of the issues of which he spoke and took appropriate steps to rectify them (long before I became aware of the writings in these pages)...
...see it now...
..where the bricks are much better aligned (although, by no means perfectly, I will admit). I was, though, "ice", rather surprised (and somewhat disappointed, too) to see that you did not mention anything about the brick texture being 'upside down' (the shadows can clearly be seen on the 'wrong side' of the bricks in my earlier images), which I also fixed in the realignment process, as well as spending some time to ensure that the roof tiles were more closely aligned. I WILL NOT, however, remove the 'sheen' from the telephone, as this is absolutely ESSENTIAL to replicate the shine of the Bakelite (from which these items were made) - as anyone old enough to have used them will readily attest to...
...I am still toying with the idea of eliminating the 'incongruousness' (is that a word?) created by the difference between the two edges of the brick texture (which creates the awkward join when the texture is tiled) but I rather like the effect this creates and mirroring the image to make one half the reverse of the other might create its own unwanted effects...
...angelah, I'm not 'playing', as you suggest, in an attempt to ascertain some kind of 'limit', here - all the details depicted are intended to remain part of the asset when it does get finally published. It must be remembered that all of the assets in this series are 'published' as "pretend locomotives" (and not 'static' scenery items, although I would be rather 'upset' were I to see any actually moving of their own free will along any given length of track), replete with complete interiors equipped with internal 'camera views' (as in real Trainz locomotive cabs) and the 'details' are intended to provide the 'feel' of a genuine working signal box when the cab is entered by means of the "[]" keys...
...once again, I must thank you all for the splendid efforts you have undertaken in my defence, I hope they have not been in vain...
...oh, one more thing...
..."ice", although I agree that this is specifically a thread intended solely to display "renders" (as it's tile suggests), I think most people who post here will agree with me that it is generally accepted that these renders are
meant to be of objects and scenes that are personally created by the person posting said renders. The apparent 'revelation' that you are taking the title at its "face value" (if not its intent) and may NOT be the 'perpetrator' of some of the assets bearing your name (excellent renders though they may be), has 'lowered' my 'respect' for you as a modeller...
