GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

G'day S301,

...methinks, Zec, that you may have a little extra time to work on it, seeing as the Victrainz Forum is currently "experiencing difficulties"...

...I, too, have been busy during this 'lean period', so I thought I might share with you (and the rest of the world), these latest renders of the second (the first is currently undergoing testing) 'version' (a different design to the aforesaid) of a typical Victorian Railways Coal Stage. This model is based on the installation that was provided for the Locomotive Depot at Warragul, although similar designs may be seen throughout the VR's system (making this suitable for 'generic' use within the game) but unlike the first Coal Stage (which was based on the installation at Cressy), this one is only capable of handling 3 locomotives at a time, being a mere 130' long (compared to 170' for the Cressy unit)...

...I am hoping you will be ever so kind as to provide the same cooperation that you are currently offering to the first of the Coal Stages, towards the same end, with this new one...

Is there a chance of a coal stage without the yellow base? It doesn't fit in texture-wise and I'd prefer to be able to blend it with the textures I'm using, plus it doesn't seem dirty enough considering all the coal that will spill

Some more weathering :) Plus a 'trial' fit of my 30ft rails on the wagon lol.

And Garry, that's looking good. Can't wait to give the animations/etc a go on it! :)

G'day H222 & S301,

@H222,

Jamie, the 'ground texture' is prototypical for the majority of the locations where these things were constructed but you will be pleased to hear that I also have, ready to go for when the 'first' of these gets 'the go ahead', a matching ground texture (with an appropriate normal map to TS2009 standards), so that blending it into any other surrounding ground textures should no longer be an issue (besides, the base here, as is the case in the other unit, is needed to cover the holes in the terrain caused by the required dig holes to 'uncover' the ash pit)...

@S301,

...I am glad to hear that, Zec but I suppose we should keep such discussions where they belong, once Victrainz is more 'amenable'...

...oh and I just love the scratches on the deck/floor of the 'Q', too...

No offence...

Sketchup Model
Incapable of ARN or any other features for a basic locomotive
Incorrect horn (Should be K5LA)
Etc...

BUT that's just by opinion for not appreciating it as much as you do...

G'day H222,

Jamie, despite my indications above, I took another look at the images I had used for reference whilst building the above asset and after serious thought and much research, found another texture that should be 'agreeable' for the both of us. This texture is actually the same one used by N3V for their "TS09_50" ground texture (without modification, unfortunately, so I am not sure how this 'fares' with "the licence") but the asset now looks like this...

...in which, I hope, I have managed to scale the 1024 x 1024 texture to fit into a 10 meter x 10 meter sized area, so that it will match (or nearly so) the scale of the 'official' ground texture with the 'radius' setting set to minimum (obviously, I cannot test this until I get it into Trainz) but if this new texture is 'more to your liking', I will carry on regardless...

...as for the 'clean' timbers, I have never been that confident in attempting the required weathering that would be needed here to simply provide an overall cover of blackness (without obscuring all the other essential details), using the tools available to me with either of the two GMPs that I like to use, to get the result that I want, hence no coal dust (if you have any hints that might 'clue me in' to how this can be accomplished in PSP and/or GIMP, I would greatly appreciate it but please, do not espouse them here, a PM to me will suffice)...

@Blake: download my CDTX rolling stock, and you will see what features does it has. I know how to add ARN to that thing. Really, no joke. The horn looking bad because i`m not very good in horns models. That`s all.

@Mikey: That model is made by me, no one is not helped in mesh work. You can look at its first stages of building here:http://s4.zetaboards.com/amtkz/topic/9766902/1/

Thanks all for comments :)

Good Morning All
I have removed several posts from this thread. It is not appropriate to attack other members on the forum. This thread is for showing, and discussing, models/renders in the various 3D modeling programs used by members of the community. Be it for Trainz, or just a 'render' project.

@Blakedooley
If you are going to give criticism on a person's model, please do so constructively. It isn't appropriate to simply attack a model because a few other members of the community like it. What you posted may be correct, but it will also simply cause a flamewar. Had you done so constructively and politely, it is unlikely that we would be in this situation.

Understood, Mr. Murphy...
