GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Hi slabay,
Just seen this supermarket you made. Looks good so a big Well Done for breaking into Gmax. We all have to start somewhere and a building is a very good place rather than a complicated loco that is likely to put you off working in a 3D prog altogether. I can still remember my stumbling start but we improve with time and learn more of the Gmax quirks and tools.
There are some roof textures about on the Web if you search and that will cure that problem but I can't see anything wrong with the sign. Sort the roof out and upload - simples!

Angela

Thanks, Angela! I've been doing quite a bit of reskinning, so finding the textures isn't so much of an issue with me. I didn't like the roof texture, but it looked like a roof, and the front sign just seemed flat to me. If it was something that I was going to release, I'd have spent a bit more time on the textures. It was more along the lines of a comment that I wasn't real happy with the textures I used. Point was to make the building, which I was quite happy with.

I did that in gMax because it was a bit easier as the first item than 3ds Max is, which is what I am fiddling around with right now. I've done the World of Trainz flatcar tutorial and had a few issues exporting it. I've chatted in PM on and off again with Mick (Matruck) and he's been my go-to with questions. It has definately been a struggle getting started, but I'm ready to run with it!!!

Like Robinson Crusoe, it's as primitive as can be!

If you're looking for the latest and greatest 3D render from the Jointed Rail guys, keep reading, because this isn't it! But I did manage to use the flatcar tutorial, then added a frame spine to the car and some cross ribs. Yes, I built my own railcar in 3ds Max! Credit where credit is due, they are CloakedGhost's couplers and Jointed Rail's bogies from the DLS.

Need to adjust the end numbers up a bit:

Like they say (with apologies to Neil Armstrong):

"A small step for mankind but a giant step for you". Well done :Y:.

Very nice work Scott very nice indeed mate, There really should be a thread in here for your first creations made with Max/Blender/Gmax/Plasticine what ever ya use as i think you'd be surprised with sum of the top creator's first model's. So get back into Max Scott and pratice practice practice and soon i can start asking you for stuff..lol.
Cheers Mick.:)

Hi Scott,
To take on Gmax, Blender or any other 3D package is a momentous step and that is just the start, the rest is a real hill to climb.
But you have kept going and now even into rolling stock which is pretty impressive.
I admit I also had a Go_to guy who was an amazing help (and still is at times) when I began learning Gmax but once I had texturing under control I was able to venture out into other tools within Max and see what they did.
So another Big Well Done. I think you've won.

Oh, and I winch a bit when I see some of my first attempts, as I am sure most of us do, but then of course we were still learning. However, I still think you shop is worth sending up and I hope you do one day.

Keep up the good work,

Angela
