GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Something is missing.... somewhere in the big stack of parts, for reasons so far unknown, one single item screws up the export. What to do? Identify the main chunk and then take it by increments. Tedious but safe and it has the advantage that you catch the odd fliped normal in the process.

@yojimbo: 83k is a good count, especially at these relatively wide roundings where many segments are required to make it look smooth.
At the first glimpse (without nowing the mesh) I think you could reduce the splines for the railings. I'm usally using 12 to 16 sides and 6 to 8 segments for a 90° radius.
Have you had selected the viewable meshes at export? Cause the exporter sometimes only exports seleted objects.

I'm curios how this shunter looks with rendered textures and environmental effects ;)

I love it when you talk dirty :D As for the railings I use 8 sides and a smoothing threshold of 65 that makes them look nice at all ranges. For thicker railings I go higher, bur for a 30mm pipe 8 segments are just fine. It turned out that it was a typo in one of the textures onetes rather than onetex. Now she is looking her own self again.

Dropped you a note on skype. We need to talk.

Well the 12+ sides were meant for the LOD-0 model. The problem of round elements are not the long surfaces, but the intersections where all of the smooth magic gets revealed. So for LOD-1 8 is the way to go and for LOD-2+, 3 sides may just work fine.

(Personal opinion after a lot of testing)
There are CCs who create great models of e.g. roof isolators with 8 sides and sharp edges - which looks awesome from >10m distance, but I really like to weasel around models very close and expect them to look still aweseome.

Another toy I found on my external hard drive for any IPD era needs.

Very nice opus, just wounder if you release your work, or no, don't take it the wrong way, not asking for it, but if it were available were would one might be able to download your stuff, you got some nice moldes, keep up the great work,

That looks great Mick! I'm guessing it's not an Aussie one? As most of the rail companies in Aus tended to paint them white for better visibility :) Even a very worn one will have bits of white paint on it :)

Been setting up normals maps on my M class tonight. Not a huge job, but it does look good on a clay render!

And a 'painted' version with them enabled :)

Regards

Cheers UP5521 thanks for that.

Thanks Zec it was supposed to be a Aussie one actually lol but maybe i've been hanging around the yanks too long :p as over here in NSW the restraining plates go the other way across the sleeper apparently so i'll muck around with it and even see if i can put a coat of white paint on it also. Nice work on ya M Class anyways Zec that actually looks like a the little 10 class tank engines or what ever they call them in NSW.
Cheers Mick.

The Railbox is the only one that is prototypical though. Just found out that ACF produced these in Plate B and Plate C versions and the Bay Line was a Plate C. Removed that and replaced it with a weathered Railbox.
