GMax and 3DSMax (And any other modeling program) screenies/renders

Hello everybody! Show here two new projects. First German steam locomotive Yellowstone manufactured by Henschel & Sohn - 1937.
Made for the railroad Estrada de Ferro Central do Brasil (EFCB) metric gauge. The model is already almost finished!

Nice! Brazilian steam has always been a wonderful little side interest, even for a yankee like me! Case in point, The Dona Teresa Cristina: http://www.lifewastedchasingtrains.com/main.php?g2_itemId=1110

how can an American like me not fall in love with a narrow-gauge 2-10-4?! :udrool:

take it easy there sawyer, I completely agree with you, that example of steam and other locomotives such as the 2-10-4 for that particular railroad in that country does look great, especially when they are running.

The good news is I finally sorted out the issues with the coil cars and have some ready for release. My dad always had an expression when he was cooking on the grill: "If it's black, it's done." Sadly, overbaking does not mean it is done. Now, with a fresh bake on the coil cars, the hoods don't match, so I had to bake the hoods again. Baking the hoods, I realized little things that I didn't notice before now that I've gotten better with Max, so I've tweaked a few things and redid some parts that bothered me, so now I've got a little remapping to do. So all I can say for the coil cars is "soon".

In the meantime, here's the re-worked coil hood. I fixed some parts that didn't quite line up right and redid the hand rails while I was at it. I'm liking it much more now.

That doesn't look like Sketchup. I think it's Blender. But yes, curves are possible in sketchup, how they are made varies. There is a 'smoothen edges' option, which takes those multi-faceted objects and makes a 'single unified' face. Technically those faces still exist though.

Sorry for quoting a image but need to ask does sketch up not do curved surfaces this seems to be made out of a lot of flat bits joined together ???

I don't believe most 3D modeling software does curves. There are curve functions but in reality when you get close enough, it's all really just a bunch of little straight sections. The smoother the curve, the more straight engines & the higher the poly.\

A perfect curve is not totally impossible, but the nature of many 3D games today means that curves are usually interpolated, usually at least 2 steps or more depending on the level of detail. It's usually done in such a way just to prevent unnecessary waste of time and processing power for something that's replicable with much less polygons. The recently completed "Big Brain" digital model of a brain took 10 years to complete because of the detail.

Thank you! I have here already plans for the 2-10-4 of EFDTC. And maybe also 2-10-2. I used a model of 2-10-2 Bdnaeal to "look like" the Skoda EFDTC. If I have permission, I put here the download and screenshots of the model. For counted tried, but I had no answers. And I could not stand so much anxiety. Very interesting to discover that there are fans of them there in the U.S..

Thank you.
