Regardless, surely you would build the post to the side, as there is always the chance (however slim) that that particular line may open again at some point.

That pole may cause problems 'down the line.':hehe::hehe:

look at the double-slip tournout ahead: it's definetly open to the post, so I don't reckon it's abandoned.

I call it either cheap photoshop or TRZ 2032 Collector's Edition:hehe:

but then again, the ballest is disturbed on both sides of the track, and I can't discern any tie, so might I be wrong?

Switzerland was always nuetral in war, so they have a right to be odd now and then... (guessing based on loco)

Zoom in and follow that shadow, after going over the track it gets wider

I would say there was an upright, causing the shadow, off to the left of the track that has been deleted, using the clone tool on uneven ground is a lot easier than creating a shadow that looks realistic, besides there is a sleeper/tie end showing to the left of the track square on to where the upright is in the middle.

Nah, the straight ahead track is closed or diverted away from the post, but cross-track turnout is probably spiked closed to the post also...

Turnouts have places where you can spike the point-rail in place.
