Epic Fail indeed! Of course, was that particular track abandoned? That might explain why they just built the post right in the middle of it. ;)

Regards.

Next thing you know, there will be a handicap parking sign above a railroad crossing or something:hehe:

Engineer: Okay, lets head out. *drives train down the line and sees pole* What the.... Why is there a catenary post on our track?
Conductor: Because some idiots put it there.
Engineer: More like drunk baboons.
Conductor: Stop the train!
*Engineer stops train and calls the tower*
Tower operator: *slurring* Yes.
Engineer: Some dingbat placed a catenary post on our track.
Tower operator: Well, *hic!* what do you want me to do about it?
Engineer: Uh, have someone move the blasted thing?
Tower operator: Bye! *hangs up*
Engineer: Hello. *realises no one's answering* Blast! The tower operator's drunk too.
Conductor: Now what?
Engineer: I don't know.

Regardless, surely you would build the post to the side, as there is always the chance (however slim) that that particular line may open again at some point.

That pole may cause problems 'down the line.':hehe::hehe:

I think these guys have been playing trainz, along the line you might find a house in the middle of the track, and maybe some trees...;)

look at the double-slip tournout ahead: it's definetly open to the post, so I don't reckon it's abandoned.

I call it either cheap photoshop or TRZ 2032 Collector's Edition:hehe:

but then again, the ballest is disturbed on both sides of the track, and I can't discern any tie, so might I be wrong?:o

Switzerland was always nuetral in war, so they have a right to be odd now and then... (guessing based on loco)

If it wasn't for the exact shadow, I too would say photo shop, but you never know. good shot though. :hehe:

Zoom in and follow that shadow, after going over the track it gets wider

I would say there was an upright, causing the shadow, off to the left of the track that has been deleted, using the clone tool on uneven ground is a lot easier than creating a shadow that looks realistic, besides there is a sleeper/tie end showing to the left of the track square on to where the upright is in the middle.

Photoshopped!!

Cheers David

Closed...

 Nah, the straight ahead track is closed or diverted away from the post, but cross-track turnout is probably spiked closed to the post also...

Turnouts have places where you can spike the point-rail in place.
