editing layouts/routes/sceneries without loosing tasks/assignements?

I have a very complexe, complicate map on my Trainz. To make it easy to you, let's presume, it would be something like the complete Maria's Pass Route.

(I bag your pardon, but I play the German language version and "route"/"scenery"/"layout" or "tasks"/"assignement" might be the wrong terms in English, yet I trust you're smart enough to understand what I mean.)

It also got a lot of tasks assigned to it. At the complete Maria's Pass Route it would be 10 different assignements to play, one more complicate to create than the other.

Now let's say, I discover something to miss in the layout. Let's make it easy by the examble of adding a plane or helicopter or zeppelin flying around. That means, I have to add some tracks to the route.

Now, if I do that, than I have three options saving it. I began in a tasks editing the route saving it under the route's and the task's name as it had before, then all the other tasks are gone, exept the one I began with.

If I do the adjustment in the default route without any task saving it under the default's name, then all tasks are gone.

And If I do it as above, but saving it under a new name than I kept all the original, yet the altert route...

So, how to "save" the tasks on any route to the very same one, after it got altert?

Is that possible anyway.

(I'm not erasing anything from teh default map. I only add objects/tracks, etc.)

If it matters to the answer: I'm opperating Trainz2007 SE deLUXE, the last German language version of Trainz2006.

Hi Stefan - I have also had that problem. In the English version assignments are called Driver Sessions, I think that's what you mean.

When you change and save a route the kuid of the map is updated.
The sessions look for the corresponding map with the old kuid number and because they can't find it they become "orphans" (children without parents).

I have not yet tried to fix this problem but it might be possible to edit the config.txt file of the sessions or the route to use the correct kuid.

Have you used a package called Trainz Objects (available on Tafweb's site)? In that program you can find the orphan routes and their kuid numbers.

To be safe, always keep backup copies of your routes and sessions, especially if they are very complex and complicated. That way, you can go back to an earlier version.

Hope this helps

Trevor

Dear Trevor,

"Driver Session" seams to make sense.

Anyway, I always get raized hair in my neck when it comes to "adjusting" any config files or so.

Yet, your answer makes sence. At least it would be logical within the Auran way to make the game working.

Since I always do make backups, I'm on the safe side of the track anyway. But I'll sleep it over before touching the config files.

If I dare to touch it, - only if - then I'm going to tell you the result.

If I don't dare, then of course, there won't be anything to be told.

Thank's for your point of view and your idea about it.

With very best Regards from Kiel in Northern Germany,
Stefan.

Hi Stefan - On checking the Tafweb site I see that TrainzObjects does not work with TS2006 ( and presumably with higher versions either).

Since I only have 2004, I am not in a position to advise, but I did manage to restore an orphan session by finding the new kuid of the map to which it used to belong (in World/Custom/Maps folder) and then going to the Profiles
folder and editing the config.txt file.
I changed the kuid number in the line starting "map-kuid" to the new number of the map and the session was then available again.

Of course, the names of the folders will probably be different in your version of the game.

Best of luck
Trevor
