You have to add them to your friends list in game. Then when they are on then you can chat as long as they have online chat enabled in a session. Try adding me, Jib228. Then you can see how it works. Its much like AIM, or Yahoo messanger where you add people you know to your friends list.

Yeah all you have to do is add a the person's username to your buddy list in the game so the next time you start the game up, it should be in there and you can talk to them,Good luck!

Considering this is Trainz ingame chat, sure. Add anyone that you become acquainted with online and you're good to go.
