Destroyer

I'm not big on killing animals, but I can barely shoot one of the little critters anyway, so I leave it to the professionals (my Dad's a pretty mean shot. Not one of the traits I picked up). After the school shooting in Connecticut over here in America, there is a debate on setting strict gun regulations, such as thorough background checks, no magazines can hold more than 10 bullets, no automatic or semi-automatic weapons, etc. Doesn't really matter to me, we just have a BB gun anyway (pretty strong BB gun, but still a BB gun), and somewhere around here there's an old pump shot gun. My dad learned to shoot with that gun, which makes it, hmm, I'd say at least 35 years old.

Might as well get a shovel for all of that digging! Here's what I have so far:

Those are just a handful from the search I did. I can get more, or if you'd like to have a look for yourself, here's the link to my image search: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q...70EB6B31D74839F56ECB139C21&selectedIndex=138#

Best of luck to you,

Hi Sean,
Many thanks for the legwork, even if if it was with your fingers. For now it would be best to send these to me by email attachments. If you PM me I'll give you my address and then I can download the shots to the correct folder on my drive.
And also hull shots would be very useful at this time as I shall be laying that down first. If you do this and get info it saves me a lot of time away from creating, I can only either search the Web or create, can't do both at the same time..

I won't be starting until I get this cruiser done so you have time to look around and then this will be a long'ish build I expect, something along the lines of the Hood. It isn't just making the actual ship, as on Hood there are a lot of other parts that need making as well like all the ships smaller boats and secondary armaments,

Any of the large US battle ships are huge and very impressive so will look particularly grand in Trainz.

Angela

Your welcome. I'll see what I can find on the hull shape later on, I've spent most of my night finishing school work, I'm supposed to be waking up for school three hours from now, I best be turning in for the night. Have fun with that cruiser, it looks great so far!

Thank you Sean,
I'll look later when I get myself into gear a bit more, takes me a while and whatever I do has to be done slowly.

I hope your schooling is going to plan - you do have a plan? haha. Seriously, do your best, a good education is a vital thing and will help you later in life.

Never did much yesterday as I wasn't feeling very well so had a relaxing day and slept a lot. Maybe off shooting this afternoon, but that depends on the weather here and if I feel up to it, being retired, disabled and old can work against you a lot.

However, and never mind all that, I found some quite good pictures of HMS Exeter in a big book I bought recently and they have helped a lot and allowed me to correct some mistakes I had made.

Blessings,

Angela

I here you, a lot of my outdoors time depends on how busy I am and how bad my allergies are. School's going well so far, keeping my grades up, on Sunday night I had been finishing 3 separate projects for 3 separate classes. Still find it odd how all 3 managed to fall on the same weekend. Still haven't caught up on my sleep from that one. If I could sleep like you or my cat, I'd be living in paradise. Speaking of my cat, it's her birthday today, probably need to do something for good ol' April, she's turning 8... Today's a kind of light homework day, might get out and do some shooting myself, I need to find something to do with all of the soda bottles that have kept me going on the longer nights. Might, might not. Hmm, a book full of pictures of ships. I might actually have to look into that, might find some good pictures and/or drawings of the Alabama in one (or I can just look for one full of pictures of just the Alabama and get a bit more out of it). Not sure, it'd probably be some other time though. Might also get some work done on my own models, I have one locomotive that's progressing quite nicely, or I could work on my current project route. So many choices... Just out of curiosity, when will some screenshots of your current project be out next?

Good morning Sean,
Well it is here anyway.... haha. Thanks for letting me into your life a little and explaining what you are up to education-wise. You sound busy with it and with 'extra time work', homework in other words.
After a search I got some shots of the big US battleships so that is a start, but any are a help in one way or another such as shots of either side that are clear and crisp. It is often difficult to get nice sharp pictures of old ships because the film technology wasn't up to it and of course they were sometimes taken under difficult conditions. No digitals in those days unfortunately.
My new rifle is amazing. It is a Daystate Airwolf so fully electronic, although that doesn't mean you get a perfect shot every time, it just makes the gun work, the shot is up to the shooter. Must have got it something like right as I have been invited into a competition. That means loads of practice though so reduces Trainz/Gmax time. Shooting takes my mind away from everything else so clears me head a lot. When I come back to whatever I was doing I can take a new view of it.
I am not a cat person but would not harm one even so. My preference is for dogs. I hope your pet's birthday is a happy one.
Locos are a mystery to me, can hardly tell one from the other so I leave those to the people that have the knowledge to get them right. Any route making is on hold for me while I do ships in Gmax, I only have so much time so I am forced to choose what to fill it with.
Off to hospital today for the weekly torture, I mean physio.... that takes a day out of my week every week.
The cruiser is almost done, I need a day's concentration to get it finished. I will post a picture then. Just have the aft Control Tower to sort out and the fo'csle (anchors et al).
It has been raining here, we need it, hasn't rained for ages so the ground is very hard and dry. What we have had is very cold weather, hard frosts and snow so any change from that is for the better.

Have fun today,

Angela

Glad to hear you have a new gun, no more gun troubles for you I'd guess, well, maybe not entirely, being an electric gun the batteries will run out eventually, and as was the case with my electric air soft M16, the shot quality tends to decrease as the battery fades, but that was an air rifle, not a real gun (and it was an awful one at that. Wouldn't shoot unless you held it upside down or super-charged the battery). I believe my cat had a great birthday; however, judging from this picture, I think she may have a hangover.
Yeah, she was knocked out. Days at the hospital tend to be no fun, had to go for stitches once. Ugh. Then again, if it were fun, it'd be called an amusement park and not a hospital. It's raining down here too, very hard, very severe thunderstorms, a few tornadoes earlier. The bad picture quality from back in the early 40's makes me glad I chose the South Dakota Class Alabama, it hasn't changed since WWII, so any modern digital pictures are still of pretty much the exact same ship (there were a few internal changes made), so you get the great picture quality and the same ship. Just downloaded some F-22 Raptors off of the DLS, I'll probably be flying them around once my homework is done. Will probably get some pics of my fleet, the USS Nimitz (Aircraft Carrier) guided by the USS Missouri, the USS New York (Battleships), the USS Fletcher, and 4 HMS Solebay's of various numbers (destroyers). I find my fleet very odd, the escort is totally out of era in comparison to the carrier (or vise versa perhaps), yet I like it that way. Oh well. Can't wait to see that finished cruiser, and good luck in that competition!

Hi Sean,
The new rifle is a Daystate Airwolf, look it up on the web. It is an air rifle and the battery is only to run the electronics that help run the gun, like bleeping when the mag is empty and when the 200 bar air cylinder gets down to 70 bar, the electrics do not help fire the rifle. Should be out with it tomorrow (Friday) at the range practicing for this competition.

Other matters :-

The cruiser is done..

A big ship so file size is 1.34Mb while the poly count has risen to a horrendous 63,420...!!

It works fine in 2004 but 2010 throws up 2 errors that aren't errors. They are both textures it claims are not there but they are because I got it showing in 2010 and the ships is grey (gray to you) and that is one 2010 says is not present. The other is white and that also shows up in 2010. But these errors may cause the model not to show in 2012. I tried a few things but the error persists. Textures are the correct sizes and have the txt file with them. I don't have 2012.

So if anybody has any suggestions I am listening.

The ship is out on test on another PC at the moment.

I hope you cat (we call them moggies over her) is okay now and fit and well again.

Love the Raptors, lovely aircraft. I think our RN are getting some of the carrier types for the 2 new large carriers being built at the moment for the Royal Navy - and about time too! An island needs carriers, simple as that.

Blessings,

Angela

Ah, that explains it. Sounds like the gun has some lovely features. That ship looks great, in fact, they all do. Which air craft carrier is that in the background, and where can I find it?

Just flew those F-22 Raptors around for a second spin. Somehow pulled off a mid-air collision (the second time too! The first was more of a one in a million thing, the planes, an F-18 and a F-16, were on to separate tracks, the raptors today were on the same track). Obviously my flight skills need work, but they are great aircraft, I think you'd enjoy flying them, you should pick one up sometime. My favorite part is the start-up shut-down feature. It's triggered by the b button, plus none of my other planes can start-up or shut-down, they're always running.

Hi Sean,
The carrier is HMS Ark Royal, it should be on the Trainz DS as a 2009 asset and also the TPR Site (look under the UK Section and then Buildings) as a 2004 asset.

Building ships takes nearly all my time and shooting the rest of it, but both are enjoyable. I just wish the polys would stay lower on ships but that is a nature of the beast, lots of parts on them, those plane catapults produce quite a few with lots and agled parts in them.
My worry is the texture thing. It has happened before and I never found the cure for it then. I might have to post in the Content Creation section about it, maybe somebody has an idea or two.

Saturday so no school, what are your plans? Do you need to study over the weekend?

Angela

Generally I have some schoolwork over the weekend, but generally no studying. Honestly it's actually pretty rare for me to study for something, it's generally when I know that I have absolutely no chance without doing so. Despite this lack of studying, I still make really good grades. This weekend will unfortunately be forced spring cleaning in my room for me. There is nothing I hate doing more than cleaning my room. If I get done in time, it'll be back to working on my own models. I'll have to pick up that carrier, it looks really nice. Maybe I can make two fleets and have them run international naval warfare training together. Acutally, I like that idea, I'm going with it. Thank you!

Hi Sean,
Good news then, more ships for your dockyards.

The cruiser is in 2010 but with one error, it says the grey isn't there yet puts it all over the ship in Trainz...!! It refuses to show in 2012.
This means it will only be for version to 2010 (with the error) and not 2012, I cannot mess about anymore, it means starting over again and I am not doing that because Trainz is being so finnicky. The ship works in other versions so it has to be Trainz. The reason it won't show is it says the grey texture is missing.... but it isn't.
TBH I am pee'd off with it and need to get on and start on something else, there are plenty to do.

Got a new scope today for the Airwolf, cost a packet (£315) but no point in having the best gun and not a good scope. Hit 7 out of 10 4mm bulls eyes (the other shots hit in the next ring out) before I changed the scope so once the new one is sighted in I am hoping to hit 10 out of 10. Whooopy!

Blessings,

Angela

Cool, sounds like a sweet scope, I'll bet you'll be deadly once its sighted in. 7/10 4 mm bulls eyes?!? You are an amazing shot! I can hit an entire 0/10 bulls eyes that small! I'm such a great shot. Today signaled the start of lizard catching season, where I catch as many lizards as I can and release them an hour or so later. My day so far is 2/7 lizards caught/spotted. Both were 4 inch long Green Anoles. It is one of two species that can be found around my house. The other is the Five-Lined Skink, which are very beautiful creatures, very colorful. My record day is 11/13 lizards caught/spotted. The biggest lizard I've caught was a 7 1/2 inch long skink. Caught that one in my bedroom, I think April chased him there. About those textures, I know a guy who can probably fix it (forums username n8phu). He's fixed up a lot of old models for newer versions, and he can probably get yours running right in TS12. Not sure though, he generally does engines and he already has a lot on his to-do list. Never hurts to try though. Hopefully I'll start and finish a specialized military route today, featuring multiple fleets from America and the UK, invisible track for aircraft operations, and regular track for running trains (particularly military trains, I just found some army railcars yesterday). Should be pretty cool, might even throw a battle in there with it. Not sure how I'd pull that off... Hmm, I could make your boats drivable and then find a guy to animate the turrets. I just realized that I know a guy for everything, I can find someone to animate those turrets. Maybe a project for later on, don't feel like it right now. What's next on your to-do list now that the cruiser is done? Aside from destroying everyone at the shooting competition. I'm willing to bet that you'll win that, if you're drilling those targets like that. And with the new scope... Yeah, you'll win. Took some target practice myself today, at about 30 yards, I was 3/4 hits on a milk carton. Ugh. Hopefully I'll be able to get a handgun soon, the rifle I'm using now is pretty heavy, which makes my arms shake all over the place and it's very hard to hit anything. I'm pretty deadly with a handgun though, my aim is significantly better, in fact, I can hit a bee-sized target from about 20 ft out with one. Maybe I'll get one for my birthday in a few months.

We do a thing called shooting flies, have you heard of that? They aren't really real flies, they would never stay still long enough, but life-sizes ones printed on a sheet of target sized paper.
Yes, that scope is a whizz, really pulls the object in close but then of course that also magnifies any shake. maginification is 6-32 x 56 so quite a good one.
If you shake with a rifle rest the forend on a small beanbag, we use uncooked rice in ours, and place that on a small picnic table.

A lizard in your bedrrom, not sure I would fancy that much...haha.

What is next? I have the Hood to get on with and an RFA (Royal Fleet Tender) which are large supply ships, every fleet must have one, oh and an Assualt helo ship of some sort.

Just about to watch my latest recording off SKY of Cirque du Soleil, I am hooked on that circus, you have them over there in the States.

Goodnight,

Angela

Hi there Angela I like the ships you are building for trains they look very good
I am unable to find any of them so I can't on the site you told us about I have looked all over

That depends on the fly. I've hit bees in mid-air before. Of course, that was with my airsoft pistol, I could never do that with a rifle. I would use your bean bag trick, except I rarely have anything to shoot off of, I just hold and shoot. Even with a prop I'm not particularly good. I have that route I mentioned mostly done, it's 21 baseboards. I have the island mostly done minus a good dock, a town, and track. Textures and trees are down though thanks to the Alt + Ctrl + Shift + P trick, which automatically makes a baseboard's worth of scenery. I also have the ocean textures down, and two fleets, one is a larger British fleet coming around the south end of the island heading north. The other, a smaller but still sizable American fleet, steams south from the shallower waters in the north. In between, on the west end of the island, is a trio of subs heading towards the British fleet, who hasn't picked them up yet. The Americans picked them up a few miles earlier and have been following them south, and is currently sending out a warning to the British fleet. I'll find some smoke effects somewhere as well as some German ships, who I plan on having hit the Americans from behind to aid their subs (although the subs currently down there are American nuke subs), and I'll have a lovely war between the three. I have two pitted against one, who should I have help the Germans? Because right now I see some nasty depth charges and a quick end in the Germans' future without them. Even a second German fleet won't make this much fun, between the Americans and the British I have three aircraft carriers, all I'd have to do is bomb their brains out with the three and it'd all be over. I'll get some screenies of the fleets later, the British fleet, which is made up solely of your ships, is looking sharp.

Hmm, all of those three sound like good options, for me it'd be between the Hood, which I can put into a British fleet or an American fleet disguised as a South Dakota Class Battleship, or a helicopter carrier, which flat out rocks (and is also dual use). My love of battleships and things with lots of firepower make me lean towards the Hood, but my need of helicopters makes me want the helo carrier. According to my research, you have two active helo carriers (HMS Ocean and the HMS Illustrious) and had another two that are retired that are from the 60's to the 80's (HMS Bulwark and the HMS Albion). Just thought I'd let you know what I found there, not sure if there are any other assault helo ships of sorts, the helo carriers are all I can think of.

They are all available on TrainzProRoutes under UK Buildings. Look for anything beginning with HMS or SS, I think the only SS is the SS Liberty. If you can't find TPR they are here. If you still can't find the ships, I can get you some individual links.
