Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

I think the monument is a tad closer to the tunnel, sadly this picture of mine only shows the rock entrance, but not the tunnel

Haha, thanks, Ferrous! And, thanks, Klinger. I wasn't too sure, as I only have close photos of the monument, and Google Maps doesn't have hi-res imagery over Rock Tunnel. Antonito, Lava, Sublette, sure, but not Toltec Gorge!:hehe:

Oh, and Prowler, thanks, we just arrived in Memphis. Trip went safe, but the traffic in Memphis is horrid!

Got some new screenshots!

I've been working on the rider gondola for the Cumbres & Toltec. What do y'all think?

Oh, and no, it's not too dark. That's the lighting settings in Gmax.

For some reason I get a '403 Frobidden' message when I try that link...

As far as the end there, the plans indicated it but the current photos didn't  I'll try and fix that today, along with adding all the other little details.
Oh, forgot to mention...I've added rivets to the metal framing =D and the metal strap-steps (sorry for the non-technical lingo) on the ends, and the gates at each end of the coach done and textured. And this will be my first rolling stock item in which the whole thing is made from one texture! Haha!

Cool! Pipe Gons :)... now I won't have to make one ;) It looks really good too. You're becoming quite the modeler.

Todd

Try these ones...

One note here, when doing the frieght versions, the D&RGW placed the flying Rio Grande logo to the right of where the C&TS placed the logo.

While not the best picture of the subject, you can see where the logo was when on the D&RGW.

Haha, thanks, Todd! It means a lot to hear that from an excellent modeler such as yourself! =)

I have both of those photos on my USB drive...I used them for getting the color right!

And I'll be sure to note that about the logo. I have individual textures made for 9615 and 9613 already. If I can learn how, I'll try my hand at ARN for the freight versions, otherwise I'll just make five or six different skins...ARN would be more fun though! :D

C&TS Rider Gondolas

They're almost done! All I need to do with these puppies is add the passenger attachment points, add some lettering to the textures, and add a little piping to the underside. Then I'll do the freight version! The gondola version should be up and running the virtual narrow gauge rails by tonight, hopefully! This may be the fastest I've gotten a piece of rolling stock ready for release...I started on the model a couple days ago! :hehe:

Enjoy the pics!

And again, the darkness is because of gMax, not the textures.

Very nice Tim! (I'm sending you a PM as we speak regarding my trip to Chama)
All you need now is the foot and a half of soot in and around to gondola. ;)

Haha! Great idea! I'll sooten-up those boards...that's brilliant! I would have never thought of it. When I rode, I went to the gondola over Cascade Trestle...took bunches of pictures of the scenery but didn't think to take any of the gondola.:p

You get the old star for detail. :D
EDIT: Tim, are these the ones that have the benches running along a portion of the sides or are these of a different type.

Double edit: After looking at my shots I took a few days ago, you're making a different type of gondola. If you decide to make one like this, here's a picture I took for you:

:udrool: WOW! That is one nice looking rider gond, there Tim!

@ dietrichj ;

You must have been standing next to me at Cumbres on the 9th, because I have almost the exact same shot.

If you check the number on the gondola, you will notice it is a flatcar that was converted to a Passenger gond. Once it was converted to a gond (then owned by Scenic Railways) it was original to be used on a Lake Tahoe Scenic Railway. (As per FoC&TS website.) The car was returned to the C&TS in the 1970's as 301 and became the Antonito rider gond for many years, until the 9600-series. (Tim's gonds) replaced it in 1997.

I know this isn't exactly 100% on topic but,

DRGW489, I was the youngest guy with a fancy camera there, wearing a white shirt (big mistake for a steam locomotive :hehe:) and shorts, no doubt we saw eachother. I was lugging around my camera, video camera, and tripod aswell.

Thanks! I'm planning on doing all of the gondolas.

DRGW489, aren't there four rider gondolas? Two of the 9600 class and two of their own custom-made cars? I saw photos on the FoC&TS, just wanted to confirm that with you.

Yeah I was lugging all three around up there as well.

Tim, there are(where) 8 rider gonds that I am aware of.
1204 - High Side gond; Walkway cut into ends, peak holes cut into sides.
9613
9615
1746 - High Side gond; Walkway cut into ends.
1648 - Pipe Gond, chain-and-pole gates added on ends, now gone.
1557 - Pipe Gond, chain-and-pole gates added on ends, now gone.
1357 - High Side gond; Walkway cut into ends
6205 - Converted from flatcar of same number.

Most of these were used for photo frieght trains.
