CRRM: 346 Steam up April 19th

Much agreed. Any railroad must be willing to make a massive investment if they want to restore a steam locomotive. When the Valley bought 3025 they knew what they were getting themselves into and already and must have had much of the funds available to restore the locomotive. You can't just pay as you go. There is to much that needs to be made new, fixed, changed, swapped out or flat out made up from imagination of several people in some instances for that.. Then of course you will still have to pay the wages of the shop crew, and if you are lucky enough you will have a large group of volunteers willing to give there time just to be able to help with something as great as this is.
the easty is the only narrow gauge east of the rockies. and restore the engines that have not have a wheel turn when the EBT shut down in 1953

Just stop dude, stop posting. You have no idea what you are talking about so just stop talking. I don't want my thread locked for going waaaaaaaay off topic

hey, klinger, I too noticed the wrong number on the short time tender for the 346,and from the looks of it,either the original tender repair maybe pending or RGS 20 was in strasburg first but whatever the case, her original tender was better, I certainly did not expect them to do this!:(

Klinger may I ask, is 346 still in the green paint?

Yes, still green, but the cylinder jackets got painted black last year. So I think they may be thinking of repainting her again back to black, but I have not heard anything official.

The new Stainless steel tender is one of the next projects, the trucks for it will come from the old Water Car thats now on the RGS 20 spur, it sat on the hill above No Agua for many many years. The original tender trucks are shot, and would need new wheels, which is not the case on the water car, so its the obvious choice. Of course, that means jacking up the water car and removing the trucks, which is why its not yet done. Maybe during the work sessions next week, but don't quote me on that.

Ill be at the Work Sessions next week, so Ill take some pictures

do you know matt bown from extreme trains?

No.......But it was suggested at one point to have Mike Rowe come out a do an episode of "Dirty Jobs" at either a museum with an operating steam locomotive, or one of the tourist railroads. But his producers declined, since they had already done an episode aboard a steam ship, and they thought it was too similar.

Next steam up is the Saturday before Easter, 346 will be running. Come into the roundhouse and have a look at Rio Grande Southern Business Car Rico, Ill post some teaser pictures later today

Matt B(r)own is a bit annoying. My Friends who work with NS couldn't wait to throw him out of the cab when he went around the horseshoe curve,
