CRRM: 346 Steam up April 19th

The Chicago CTA guy
Got some nice pictures while I was there. Also got a chance to talk to Kelvin Harr (sp?) who is in charge of the volunteering efforts. So I at last got the opportunity to volunteer at the Museum. I'm quite excited to be able to help out

Notice the mismatched tender number. The tender for 346 is still in Strasbourg, so they used the tender from 318 which has already be restored to operation....sadly we cannot say the same for the locomotive 318, which has been in pieces for years. Also note the No Agua water tank, which is also being restored as a working water tower to fill up the Museums steam locomotives..

good to see Rio grande equipment steamed up....is it true this is the oldest opperating loco in colorado?

its still there, parked near the roundhouse. its still in operational conditation, just needs some elbow grease. both Shays, 12 and 14 are also still operational, just not used much, costs a lot to operate a locomotive for a day. several parts of outside frame #44 are scattered around the museum, including the tender, frame and I think the drivers and sand dome. Drivers are in Durango supposedly, and the Boiler is i Denver. Maybe one day when they get a new railroad going (or get the loop back) she will be put back together

they also have all three loop diesels, which are used quite often on operating days that are not steam ups, as well as the Museums Peewee. their also fixing up D&RGW #50, not sure if it will be in operating conditation or not however, but it is in the roundhouse getting some sort of restoration

Hello
I know the guy in charge of restoring #50 (we also own a 7 1/2 inch scale model of it) and its a long way off. They got close to being done but the origonal transmisson said nope, it ain't happning and now its being rebuilt again. The engine itself is also have fuel consupmtion problemes so there just ironing out the bugs on the engine and tranmisson then its back together.

...You're going to move a historic NG 2-8-0 out of it's home state... HOW?

Not likely sir.
I only see this happening one way. before they ship it back to Colorado, they test #20 and if they would do that, it would be for only a day, and it would probably be closed to the public. I really doubt they would test it then tear it apart to ship

It's not going to leave our museum. Nice try.
Like I said, only way it will ever ride the EBT (or any NG rails outside of Colorado) is for a test, but I really doubt they would assemble it just for one test, and then take it apart to ship back to colorado

There's no way in hell our locomotive is being disassembled for anything !
