CRRM: 346 Steam up April 19th

Like I said, only way it will ever ride the EBT (or any NG rails outside of Colorado) is for a test, but I really doubt they would assemble it just for one test, and then take it apart to ship back to colorado
the ebt should invite tweetsie 12 and 190 for their railfan weekend with 190 doulbeheading with ebt 15 on the shade gap picnic train and tweetsie 12 on the coal train .:)

Wow, 2 year bump!!!!

Oh, and Sam, since this post was made, the 318 on the back of the tender has been painted over. However the backup light still reads 318

it was rotted away to hell. the tank was replaced with a stainless steel one, its sitting to the east of the roundhouse on the second to last track.

The old tank is up near the sheds behind the roundhouse past the Navajo, its a sad sight

THE 346 WAS IN JOHHNY CASH RIDING THE RAILS VIDEO. THE 346 SHOULD GO TO DURANGO FOR THE DURANGO AND SILVERTON RAILFEST WITH THE RIO GRANDE 315.:)

one, stop typing in caps, its considered yelling on the internet

two, thats a good idea, if you want to pay for it.....its very expensive.

I would love to see both RGS 20 and D&RGW 346 go to Durango for Railfest, that would be pretty cool

the east broad top should put the 12,14, and 17 back to steam.:)
yeah, Go ahead, you spend the money to bring them back, it won't cost more than 500,000 an engine. 12+14+16+17+18=2.5Million USD. you happen to have that much?

the easty restored the 15 to steam in 2005. according to trains magizine the railroad would restore the 14 and reopen the line to mount union.:)

see, your missing something that a true old easty fan would know. They actually made a deal with the FRA to keep 14 operating after those idiots at the Gettysburg railroad blew up their steamer:n:(no one was killed thankfully). They could operate a technically uninspected locomotive until they could do a complete tear down of 15.

dpfan, do you know anything about railroad restoration, steam operation, or steam maintenance?

I do, if it sounds easy to you, let me be the first to tell you, its not. I've working on steam locomotives, and should have my first chance at operating one this year

yes i know steam operations and steam maintenance while riding at strasburg.:)

Riding does not count. Ever worked on a steam engine? Ever operated a train?

For example, RGS 20 is gonna cost about $1 Million to restore. So when you want to start foot out cash for all these projects, go for it. Otherwise start doing some fund raising

sorry to bust your bubble, but it will be a long time till 14 is back up and running,:o. unless of course, the EBT has a profitable season like last year

14 is NOT being restored. It last operated in 2005, and is NOT undergoing restoration unless a bucket load of money comes in

That what steam restoration comes down to, dedication of the shop crew, and lots and lots of money

Much agreed. Any railroad must be willing to make a massive investment if they want to restore a steam locomotive. When the Valley bought 3025 they knew what they were getting themselves into and already and must have had much of the funds available to restore the locomotive. You can't just pay as you go. There is to much that needs to be made new, fixed, changed, swapped out or flat out made up from imagination of several people in some instances for that.. Then of course you will still have to pay the wages of the shop crew, and if you are lucky enough you will have a large group of volunteers willing to give there time just to be able to help with something as great as this is.
