Can't patch Gamestop download

I purchased Trainz 2010 Engineers Edition from Gamestop as a digital download. It installed as version 44088. I then downloaded the patch to go from 44088 to 49933 from the Auran website. The first problem was when the patch couldn't find the installation, so I pointed it to c:\program Files (x86)\N3V Games.

Then it said "Existing file is damaged and cannot be patched: C:\Program Files (x86)\N3V Games\Trainz Simulator 2010 - Engineers Edition\Trainz.exe" and aborted the patch.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, with no change. So what do I do?

Also, it seems that Service Pack 4 is the latest, but there doesn't seem to be a patch to go from 44088 to Service Pack 4.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit. (By the way, isn't there a 64bit version of Trainz 2010? I wonder why it installed in the x86 directory.

There is no 64 bit version of ANY trainz game... yet. Recent announcements have stated they will be going to a 64 bit format in the next version.

Ok, so I uninstalled and re-installed to c:\Trainz. Just for good measure I set both trainz.exe and the patch exe to run as Administrator.

This time the patcher readily found the installation, but it still fails with the following message:

Existing file is damaged and cannot be patched: C:\Trainz\Trainz.exe

Failed to apply the patch: 44088_to_49933
Patching aborted.

Trainz runs, so I don't know what it means by "the file is damaged".

OK, Step two:

After installation (which appears successful), you need to again set the Administrator Authority and Security settings for the Trainz.exe in the main folder, and the several .exe files in the BIN folder.

Same process as with the installer exe, right-click- "properties"- etc.

Hard drive checks clean.
I set Administrator and Security to every exe in the BIN folder.
I removed Read Only access on the whole tree.

Still no joy.

BTW, it might not be clear, but I set Administrator on the Trainz.exe after it was installed. There is no way for me to set it on the installer itself, because it gets installed through the GameStop application (which I did set to run as Administrator).

Other ideas or experience with this?

BTW, your advice did fix something else, which is the losing of any routes I tried to edit.

I was expecting that to happen (the losing issue anyway).

Does the patch still fail? If so, you may need to look into a reinstall anyway.

Yes, the patch still fails. I've re-installed at least 6 times, so I think I'm just plain stuck. I wonder if the GameStop executable is just slightly different somehow, and it fails some sort of checksum test. I will never, ever buy a Gamestop digital download again. It's too bad if I wasted my money.

Can I check that your version was actually 44088 in the first place? The last time I checked, the version would have been 43361 which is unpatchable anyway unless N3V have released a patch that I'm not aware of.

Shane

Well, the start screen says 44088 and the date on the (small stub) trainz.exe is 6/23/2011. The dates on the executables in the bin directory are 9/24/2010.

I have the same problem and contacted the Trainz creators and received the following email:

"Gamestop will have different patches to the ones we provide, as they have adjusted the binary of the Trainz installer files they stock. Please contact Gamestop in regards to the appropriate service packs to use, and where to download them."

I have not been able to find any patches for Trainz Simulator 2010 on the GameStop website. All the re-installing in the world isn't going to help get Trainz patched if you purchased from GameStop as I did.

Welcome to the forum brshoemaker.

If I remember correctly, the Gamestop version of TS2010, along with certain other versions of TS2010, are build 43361 which cannot be patched anyway as there are indeed no patches available.
