My Trainz 2019 problem

I have the both the online and offline installers for Trainz 2019. When trying to install the game using both the installers, this message comes up;

"Patch failed: unable to write new file 'C:\Program Files\N3V Games\Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019\resources\builtin\46472f\content\kuid2 52319723362 1.tzarc'.

Details:
Copy failed. Result: -6"

How do I remedy this problem?

Thank you.

This sounds like your antivirus may be preventing the installer from installing the program. Go into your antivirus settings and disable real-time scanning for Trainz.exe and Patch Installer.exe

Another tip, just a suggestion, try running the .exe as Administrator.
Right click, select the option, Run as administrator.

Thanks. I tried this after getting your reply, but it didn't work. 🙁

Another issue could be your network connection corrupting the data.
Go to Program Files folder/N3V Games and delete the TRS2019 folder if it's there. You will be asked for permission to do this and confirm that. Once that folder is deleted, try the operation again.

Thinking about this, there are some other factors that can cause this issue. Including low disk space. If your disk space is low, the installation program doesn't have enough room to decompress the actual files that are being installed. Ensure you have plenty of disk space far and above the minimum to install the program.

The other issue is there's a possibility that the download is corrupted. This happens if the connection is interrupted in some way. Wireless networks are notorious for this when downloading large files. If you are using wireless, see if you can plug your PC directly into the router (modem) into an ethernet port. This will ensure a continuous download rather than one that can be interrupted.

Before getting into these other factors, I would try clearing out the folder and trying again now that you have excluded trainz.exe and patch installer.exe

I hate to say it mate, sorry but it has been mentioned before.

You need to completely uninstall TRS19, once a file has became corrupted that's it! Game over.
Make sure that you back up your user data before uninstalling, saves a lot of hassles trying to reinstall everything all over again ;)

I would suggest using either WinRAR or WinZip
Then navigate to: C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TRS19 open the 'Build xxxxxxxxxxxx" folder

Select the following folders
Local
Original
Packages

Note: If you build routes, select the 'Backups' and 'Editing' folders. If there are NO files inside the Editing folder you don't need to back it up.
Optional: You can back up the screenshots folder, if you wish to keep your screenshots.

-----------

Uninstall TRS19 once you have completely done a full backup. Move the RAR file to Desktop so you can find it ;)

Navigate back to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\N3V Games after TRS19 has been 'Uninstalled', click on the 'TRS19' select the TRS19 folder.
Hold Shift then press the Delete key, choose Yes to confirm.. This will delete everything corrupted within the 'User data folder'.

Now navigate to where TRS19 installation is 'Program Files' or 'Program Files (x86)'. Find a folder that relates to 'TRS19' or 'N3V Games'. As I have the Steam version, I have no idea what the default installation folder is called.

If you have TRS19 on Steam, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common then select 'Trainz Railroad Simulator 2019' folder
Again, using Shift + Delete key. Then click Ok to confirm!

Restart your computer

----------

Re-download the TRS19 'ONLINE' installer. Follow the prompts, when you launch TRS19, skip the configurator.
Sign into Trainz using your Trainz Account, then EXIT Trainz.

Using the RAR file, that you have backed up your Trainz content into.
Select the following folders inside the RAR file.

Local
Original
Packages

Not recommended, to select Backups or Editing..
Editing folder only if there are files inside this folder...

Extract to C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Local\N3V Games\TRS19 inside the Build xxxxxxxxxxxx folder, choose yes to override if required...

Launch Trainz
Now, don't go ahead and click Start Trainz. LOL :p We're not done yet!!! ;)
Click 'Developer', then choose 'Rebuild Database'..

Once you have rebuilt Trainz database, this will restore all your payware DLCs and everything you have downloaded from the DLS.
But, do keep in mind that maybe only a hand full of items may need to be re-downloaded via Content Manager on the DLS.

Lets hope this solves your issues :)

Thanks a ton, but does this mean I have to get rid of my antivirus altogether?

Remove the antivirus, do all of the above. If the same result is achieved and no changes without an antivirus, you can exclude it from the list of suspects and install the antivirus again.
And continue further diagnostics using the same exclusion method.

I always make rules (exclusions) for the folders I installed Trainz to. Even easier if you have a different partition (drive letter) and exclude that other drive. If you aren't using the built in antivirus, what are you using instead?

No worries!

Windows 10/11 has Windows Defender. It does just as a good job as the paid rubbish putting a hold into your wallet.
It is entirely up to you to decide if you wish to get rid of the useless antivirus software taking your money like a paper shredder, at least Windows Defender is 100% free ;)

You mean like McAfee or something? I have that too.

Thanks, but what about Express Zip? Would that work too?

You mean like McAfee or something? I have that too.
McAfee is a virus! This will not only impede your downloads but it also will impact your machine's performance. I worked for a company that used McAfee for their corporate antivirus package. For us in tech support, the product was pure hell. It never caught any malware very well and constantly caused machine performance issues.

A number of years ago my brother purchased a Dell laptop. The hardware was spec'd out nicely and he intended to use it for work while mum was in the hospital or resting in the parlor afterwards so he could be with her. When he powered up the machine the first time, the performance was horrible and he was ready to send it back thinking that there was something stuffed with the hardware. With me working in the industry, he had me look over the machine and the first thing we removed was McAfee. What a difference this made. The machine was performing totally different from what it was when he first powered it up.

To put it mildly, all antiviruses are bullshit and they are nothing but problems.
I'm glad I got rid of all including Defender this a few years ago. The only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

Recently I've been wondering, Maybe its a case of the game needing an update. On the "product downloads" section (where I still have the Trainz 2019 Platinum version purchased) I keep seeing this message;

"PLEASE NOTE
These downloads are applicable to all regional versions of TRS19, including the TRS19 World Edition, the TRS19 North American edition, the TRS19 United Kingdom Edition and the TRS19 European Edition; the content specific to your regional edition will be installed via the in-game Asset Download tool.

Trainz Plus Members (and Gold Class members)

Trainz Plus is the latest version of Trainz. Retail builds no longer provide access to the Trainz Plus features.

This means that TRS19 and TRS22 installs will work as though you are not a Trainz Plus member.

To access Trainz Plus features, please install Trainz Plus Edition and patch using Trainz Plus stream."
